We’re sharing this based on a recommendation from the Domestic Violence Death Review Committee. The Committee recently reviewed 15 deaths from intimate partner or domestic violence with the aim of reducing the risk of harm to those who experience or who are at risk of this form of violence. 3/3

The Canadian Association of Midwives and the National Council of Indigenous Midwives, in partnership with McMaster University, have published educational materials to build the capacity of midwives to recognize and respond safely to family violence. *The only exception is an Indigenous person who provides traditional midwifery services. They may use the title β€œAboriginal midwife” or a variation, abbreviation, or an equivalent in another language and may hold themselves out as qualified to practise in Ontario as an Aboriginal midwife. 3/3

Only registered midwives can use the title β€œmidwife” or any variation of that title*. In addition, people who are not registered midwives cannot hold themselves out as midwives. This prevents people from pretending that they are midwives when they are not. 2/3
