We’re sharing this based on a recommendation from the Domestic Violence Death Review Committee. The Committee recently reviewed 15 deaths from intimate partner or domestic violence with the aim of reducing the risk of harm to those who experience or who are at risk of this form of violence. 3/3

The Canadian Association of Midwives and the National Council of Indigenous Midwives, in partnership with McMaster University, have published educational materials to build the capacity of midwives to recognize and respond safely to family violence. We encourage midwives to review the resources. 2/3

*The only exception is an Indigenous person who provides traditional midwifery services. They may use the title “Aboriginal midwife” or a variation, abbreviation, or an equivalent in another language and may hold themselves out as qualified to practise in Ontario as an Aboriginal midwife. 3/3

Only registered midwives can use the title “midwife” or any variation of that title*. In addition, people who are not registered midwives cannot hold themselves out as midwives. This prevents people from pretending that they are midwives when they are not. 2/3

Abdul Latif Alsoma, also known as Abdul Latif, Abdullatif Alsoma and Latif Alsoma, has been practicing dentistry illegally in Mississauga (Ontario).
He was ordered to stop practicing, using the title doctor and holding himself out as a person qualified to practice in Ontario as a dentist.
