I love reaching for uncommon inspiration for mermaids, and Rilgon's suggestion to use a sandskink for Chromie's design was super fun~! While not an aquatic animal, sandskinks are known to "swim" through sand, so I just added a bit of fin flourish so she could move underwater too.
