Petersen capture recapture formula from
GCSE Statistics specification from Pearson.
Number in population = (sample size 1 Γ sample size 2) / number marked in sample 2
I think this is one of my favourite applications after compound measures. When it first came on the spec and in GCSE stats, it was often shown as a formula, and I couldnβt ever understand why it wasnβt just shown as equivalent fractions cause itβs just samplingβ¦ much more often shown like that now!
