The event runs in a "TeachMeet" style, with speakers sharing for about 10 minutes.
We are particularly keen to hear from Maths teachers ready to share that brilliant:

I'm excited to be supporting @ttradioofficial.bsky.social with running of Teachers Talk Connect 2026!
We are currently trying to find speakers for the Mathematics strand. ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐ซ๐จ๐ฝโ๐ซ

Is there any better feeling than being greeted with โSLAY, MISS!!โ by a Year 11 student first thing on a Tuesday? ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
Probably not ๐
This is ace! Which maths hub is that? Great idea.
08.11.2025 14:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, which is such a shame because education should be about the learning, not the performance ๐ข
08.11.2025 14:18 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I would avoid teaching SOH CAH TOA too for the same reasons!
Iโm not against the formulae themselves, just want an understanding of where they come from. If we were all on that wavelength I think it would support us across both subjects.
Yes apologies, I think my comment is where this turned and Iโm similarly not trying to have a go at science teachers, more that this might mean we could share practice much better if this is the emphasis! I feel like many more of the maths community are with me on understanding via proportionality.
06.11.2025 21:14 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0My excitement at this was palpableโฆ can I finally get science teachers to do away with formula triangles?! ๐
06.11.2025 06:53 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Me and @studymaths.bsky.social always do the โfoundation paper challengeโ to see how much of the papers you can do with a ratio table every exam series - itโs a LOT!
05.11.2025 06:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Question:
What does โvariationโ look like in subjects that ARENโT maths?
Are there some subjects where the theory doesnโt really apply?
Got to talk to all of my maths colleagues across Astrea Academies tonight about ratio tables across the curriculum ๐๐๐
Total privilege and so excited to see how it impacts teaching and learning for our scholars ๐คฉ
Yes! The wheel equally shines light on the thing you donโt want, when you THOUGHT you didnโt care ๐คฃ
29.10.2025 21:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I use something like wheeldecide.com in these moments. Often people know what they really want when it looks like it might be another alternative.
If they really donโt care, it picks for you.
Iโd only really do this with my higher tier groups. But if we drill this enough theyโre able to recreate the table in 30 seconds or so.
For foundation, I show them the table with the simplified versions, then ask them to use it a lot and hope some stick. Sometimes drill the 0.5 and 1sโฆ
Exact trigonometric values in a table for 0, 30, 45, 60 and 90 degrees for sine cosine and tangent.
Often I show the triangles to derive and then we fill in a table like the image. Relies on strong surds.
Sin & cos: both have every value over 2.
Sin goes root 0, root 1, root 2, root 3, root 4 (all over 2) then simplify.
Cos in reverse.
