Text in the piece: "Types of Shadows" Core Shadow: The darkest part of an object’s shadow. Cast Shadow: The shadow an object casts onto another surface. (It is always distorted as it's projected, more on that in Shadow Outline) Penumbra: The soft, blurry edge of a shadow where light partially reaches. It usually appears more saturated because it blends ambient light* and reflected colors. *- A warm tone means (like a candle) means richer hues. *- A blue sky means cooler tones, as another example. Ambient Occlusion: The extra-dark shadow in tight spaces where very little light penetrates. AO is arguably a bit part in how to make a scene "pop out." As part of the Penumbra, there's also "Shadow Kissing." It happens due to the way light diffracts and blends as shadows get closer together, and it's a result of overlapping penumbras. This effect "merges" or "kisses" two shadows together similar to the way two droplets of water would, but only at the very edge on where the shadows meet. This effect is super common in low-light environments, and you can experience it yourself in a dark room with a candle!

Dire qu'il y a 30 ans le meilleur du jeu c'était un personnage avec 600 à 1200 polygones avec une texture à 256 pixels avec une limite de couleurs. maintenant c'est plus de 100000 poly, et minimum 4 textures en 4096.
