3/ They consider these Twain books as sacred classics that have "valuable" lessons on slavery. They excuse away the harmful language & characterizations of Black and Brown people because Twain meant it as satire & he wanted to make a statement on racial inequality. The readers who treasure these 🧵

2/ No thought is even given to harmful stereotype of Injun Joe in Tom Sawyer. ⚪ people are so used to characterizations of Native Americans as being the evil bad guys. Reduced to caricatures for so long, it persists today. It doesn't even enter into the realm of ⚪ consciousness it is wrong. 🧵

I cry thinking of my children's future. What a fucking mess they had with Covid, now living in an authoritative regime & who knows what tomorrow brings. As a mom I hurt so much they must survive life, not just live it but survive it.

I am Native American adopted by a Mexican family. I understand this. I loved my parents so much but they were told to overlook I was indigenous and raise me as a Mexican. Then later in life I was dismissed by other Natives as being an apple.
