Thanks! I've got one left to read, which I expect will be very fun.

Feel free to share any of your faves (and I wouldn't say no to a buddy read if you wanted to muster a group). 🧑

Articles of impeachment. Every day from now until they pass.

Last time I tentatively expressed my thought that eating less meat was something individuals could do for the environment, I had to block someone who kept harassing me about it.

But I still think it has merit. There are so few things under individual control, and this one has other benefits, too.

I think it was bullshit, but I also think this might have bearing on the timing (better wage war before someone makes peace): bsky.app/profile/alja...

Absolutely, this is about Iranians and empathy doesn't require personal connection. Just wanted to acknowledge that it's hard for you and I see that.

We need to normalize compassion.

This is 100% the correct approach. John Quincy Adams brought down Congress’ β€œgag rule” (which prevented members from discussing the abolition of slavery) by bringing abolitionist petitions to the floor *multiple times a day*, against House rules. Every day the House was in session. For years.

I'm sorry you have this added layer to the horror we're witnessing.

Needing a respite from Big Things, I'm sharing my February reads.

I've been dipping a toe in histrom waters, and my favorite discovery of the month is Sarah Maclean's "Hell's Belles" series.

And keep the impeachments coming. Clean house as much as possible and chase out the lurking rats.

One does wonder how many times we can wake up to such news and still somehow continue the status quo..

Likewise.

I've known so many poor young men who joined the military for lack of other options, and they and their families go all-in on war. I wonder how it might be if education, career, housing, and respect were more accessible outside the military. If young people had more paths to choose from.

Regime change should start at home.

I grew up in a small town with a big military base. The "support our troops" message was deep-set. Questioning whether our local heroes should be sent into a particular conflict was seen as an unforgivable insult to them and their families. People develop a reflexive support for all military action.

I do think we’ve got a responsibility to really sit with the truth that some Trump administration things we’re horrified by were Obama administration things too, and we just didn’t listen.

You're making me hungry. I tagged along with Spouse to a conference on Santorini once. As a vegetarian, I ate a lot of salads and did not suffer. No lettuce, lots of fresh veg, huge brick of feta. Eaten outside on a covered patio. πŸ…πŸ˜‹β˜€οΈ

Can we rebrand vaccines as, like, ImmuMaxxing or something? Prompt a couple of podcast bros to reinvent the concept from first principles? Maybe get them to realize that passing their genetics on to posterity requires their kids to survive *and be able to successfully reproduce themselves*?

This was the next step after they started confiscating the children's letters to hide their abuse.

I would like to say more about what should happen, but that would go against terms of service here.

Really significant to note the way Oz misrepresents home & community based services for disabled people here as "things you would typically do for your family" instead of rights guaranteed to disabled folks through a long legal history which includes the Supreme Court's decision in Olmstead v L.C.

Good for those indie authors! I think they're at high risk of having their work get drowned in slop.
