We have a misting tent up and cold water at the exit door. Stop by Blanchet House for a good meal and a break from the heat. We will also refill water bottles. Unfortunately, our ice machine broke so we are waiting for a repair person.

A guest brought us this balloon turtle, saying he’d been thinking about how he moves through life slowly like a turtle and how we meet him at his own speed in the café. Ava and Liz have been having fun playing with it. Sometimes, it’s the little moments that mean the most.

Our beloved pig, Oscar, left us peacefully, surrounded by people who loved him. Oscar was more than just a farm animal; he was a healer. He helped countless men find joy, laughter, and unconditional love in their recovery journeys. Oscar’s impact will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

A guest said they’d never been to a place like Blanchet House, where someone bussed their plate. “It feels more like a real restaurant.” Another added, “They try hard and do a good job.” Coming from them, it felt like a Michelin star. “They don’t know what a big gift they gave us!”

We gave out 800 sack lunches in one hour at Blanchet House’s free cafe. The lunches were made and donated by dozens of compassionate people throughout the Portland area. ❤️

It took two years to get Bob G. housed—one year for disability benefits and another year waiting for supportive housing. He was living in his car before finding Blanchet House. With 22,000+ Oregonians unhoused, we need more housing, resources, and compassion.

Guys from Blanchet Farm were at the McMinnville Farmer’s Market today. Catch them in September selling fresh honey, eggs, veggies, and pickled things!

Visit Blanchet Farm’s booth at the McMinnville Farmer’s Market every Thursday, 11:30-5:30. Today we have freshly jarred honey from our hives! We have two sizes to choose from.

We just set a record: 643 plates of spaghetti served in one hour! While we're proud of what our team accomplished, it's a sobering reminder of how many people in our community are in need of a hot, free meal. The lines are long and the dining room is full. Thanks to our staff, volunteers, & donors!

Erik, a Blanchet House Peer Support Specialist, helped a man without a place to sleep tonight by writing him a referral to shelter. Limited beds mean there’s usually a line, but with a referral, he’s guaranteed a space. Many people don’t know how difficult it is to get shelter the day you need it.

The city of Portland released new data on the drop in crime surrounding homeless shelters.

We did our best to offer a cool place for folks coming in today. Volunteers helped give out waters and cooling towels at the exit, and the beverage squad was glad to serve juice! We set up a misting tent outside. One guest came in sweating profusely and staggering. We got him cooled off.

Every day, Blanchet rescues someone from homelessness. Like Kao, who came to stay with us when he was struggling. With the stability of our program and team, he moved into an apartment this week! Thanks to your donations, we covered his first month’s rent, removing a key barrier to housing!

We’re in need larger shopping bags for our clothing closet! Paper, plastic, or cloth please. These bags help our guests carry their clothing with dignity.

Kathy and Oakley brought us cherries they picked on a friend's farm in Mozier, Oregon. Chef Havalan was delighted to receive fresh local produce. Our guest appreciated the fresh fruit even more!

Today’s special: catfish and fries donated by the Blues Festival! When Portland has extra, we make sure nothing goes to waste. At Blanchet House extra food goes straight to hungry neighbors. Plus, we’ve got snack packs from the Convention Center for folks to take on the go. Way to show up, PDX!

We caught a curious pup eyeing a plate of food being served. Blanchet House's free café shared 31,337 meals in June, more than we served in 2024. With just 60 seats in the dining room, volunteers must move fast to feed everyone. Thank you to our donors who make our cafe available to people and pups.

Robert landed a full-time job! While staying at Blanchet House, he’s worked hard to overcome challenges. Our team has helped him with resumes and job coaching. Let’s not forget that it can take months to find work, especially while facing addiction, mental health, or housing instability. Way to go!
