Dean Smith taught me always to point to the passer - give credit to the creator before the basket gets scored. Debbie should get that point on this book because she championed it so well

How β€˜Thy Will Be Done’ by John Garrison Marks Got Made An inside look at the publication process for the historian and author’s latest book.

Every editor learns that when a book is published, the story is always the author. If anyone notes the press on the spine, that points to a team of dozens of pros not any one individual.

But here I must shout out @dgershenowitz.bsky.social who had the vision to sign this book and shepherd it

$3.7 Billion: Estimated Cost of Epic Fury’s First 100 Hours Operation Epic Fury costs nearly $900 million per day, driven by the large expenditure of munitions. Because most of this is not in the budget, the Pentagon will soon need to ask for more money.

Never forget that the U.S. can always find money for war, but not for education, health care, or to help those in need. This is 100% a choice. And it is 100% the wrong one. www.csis.org/analysis/37-...

DHS nominee Markwayne Mullin is one of the most active stock-traders in the Senate β€” and violated the STOCK Act against insider trading as recently as last August.

He currently holds stock in L3Harris, which has millions in contracts with ICE and FEMA.

The grift continues.

My daughter reported that the ICE presence outside her school during recess last week involved ICE officers sitting IN AN ICE CREAM TRUCK. And this wasn't kids misinterpreting. We had an email from the school the day it happened; we just didn't get the ice cream detail in the email.

Hegseth asked about Russia helping Iran to target Americans:

"We're not concerned about that... The only ones that need to be worried right now are Iranians that think they're going to live."

A grotesquely indiscriminate threat against the entire Iranian population.

Mullin next to the words "the only true native american in the senate"

Markwayne Mullin will undoubtedly be dubbed "the first Native American to lead the Department of Homeland Security." As a friend wrote to me, "Wow, there's the Overseer Class and then there's putting a Cherokee citizen in charge of forced removal"

Huge fan and long time student of Shakespeare. My favorite is The Tempest for its engagement with the existence of the β€œbrave new world” of the Americas and the imagination overall and the idea of Prospero breaking his staff and giving up his books as a new era and reality takes hold

It is important to remember that *Claude just makes up plausible sounding sentences,* and doesn't actually have any special access to how Claude is used elsewhere in the world

It COULD be true, but an "admission" from Claude is typically just it reading the room & telling you what you want to hear!

US military carries out 1st land operation against cartels in Ecuador: SOUTHCOM The United States and Ecuador conducted joint military operations against "designated terrorist organizations in Ecuador," U.S. Southern Command announced Tuesday.

We said No War and the US government said "best we can do is every war all at the very same time oops we're almost out of bombs but that's probably fine when doing every war, all at the very same time idk we're drunk"

The authority that Trump has asserted in taking America to war against Iran is, like many of his other power grabs, an expression of the very tyranny the Framers were seeking to prevent.

β€œKings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object,” a young congressman named Abraham Lincoln wrote in 1848. This was β€œunderstood to be the most oppressive of all Kingly oppressions and they resolved to so frame the Constitution that no one man should hold the power of bringing this oppression upon us.” This quote, incidentally, is immortalized on the House’s website, if any members of Congress are looking for it.

The design of the Constitution divided warmaking authority between Congress and the executive to prevent a president to take the country to war by themselves for any petty or self-serving reason. You know, like a king would. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

I did not share the original story because my gut was that the sourcing was dubious. Someone who knows more about the sole source confirms that skepticism. Don't fall for clickbait, read the piece linked below.

(If the story is confirmed by other outlets, that's another thing. But ... it's not)

Jesus Springs In the years after World War II, American evangelicals flocked to the once-sleepy mountain town of Colorado Springs. Drawn by cheap property, beautiful scene...

One of the books that wowed me on the entanglement between the military and American evangelicalism is Jesus Springs by William Schultz. Shows the way the Air Force Academy’s location in Colorado Springs caught eye of Cold War evangelical leaders seeking a location for their ministries to grow
