The NASA article refers to the voltage regulator as the damaged part but describes the annealing process as applied to the camera head unit, which is located on the outside of the spacecraft body;
In an IEEE conference last week, NASA engineers explained how they fixed the Juno spacecraft’s failing JunoCam imager in late 2023 by heating and slow-cooling (annealing) its electronics.

LHC "page 1": https://op-webtools.web.cern.ch/vistar/ - the monitoring page of the LHC collider that shows the status of the machine, beam intensities, etc.
A proton-proton collision event recorded in the ATLAS detector on May 5th, 2025. The day with the first stable beam collisions in the LHC in 2025.
After a boring night shift yesterday, we are back to recording collision data at the LHC. We are still in this year's commissioning phase were we are not yet at full intensity with about 800 bunches circulating in both directions. So what does that mean? A short #SciComm thread 🧵🧪⚛️

The invisibility of length contraction – Physics World
Objects travelling at relativistic speeds will shorten as a consequence of Einstein's special relativity. But what, asks David Appell, if you try to look at such an object?
If you want to irritate armchair physicists on Reddit, just tell them that length contraction isn't a visible effect. Are Bluesky physicists more open-minded? ⚛️🔭🧪
Explanation: You don't see an object's length (dist. between its endpoints at a fixed time). You see photons that arrive simultaneously.

English:
See ICE?
Here’s what to do.
DO NOT Engage
Remain nonviolent at all times. Do not give them an opportunity to charge you with real crimes.
Alert People
Yell "La Migra! Immigration!" to let people in the area know.
Video Everything
Keep a safe distance and record from your phone. Be sure to get a license plate if able.
Call a Hotline
If you're in Massachusetts, call the LUCE hotline at 617-370-5023. Do not call police; they cannot interfere with ICE.
Get Names
You have the right to ask for the agent’s name and badge number. Do so!
Check for a Warrant
Agents must have a warrant signed by a judge. You have a right to ask and see it.
Stay Silent
You have the right to remain silent even if you are taken by agents. Ask for a lawyer but say nothing else.
Stay informed, speak out, know your rights, remain nonviolent.
This is authoritarianism, and it is our job as Americans to protect our country.

A macro photograph captures a black ant on a vibrant green leaf with serrated edges. The ant is positioned near a cluster of small, dark-colored aphids attached to the stem. The ant's antennae are extended forward, and its body is slightly arched, suggesting interaction with the aphids. The background is softly blurred, highlighting the detailed textures of the ant's exoskeleton and the leaf's surface.
Check it out I found an ant tending to its aphid farm!
Ant friend is in the front keeping the farm clean and tidy and the aphid cow buddies are the black clustered at the base of the branch in the back.

Map of local National Weather Service office "areas of responsibility" modified (using polygons with black outlines and red fill) to indicate where recent/expanding cuts to NOAA/NWS have resulting in understaffing so extreme that some offices can not longer operate on a 24/7 basis.
I just created a quick map depicting which portions of the United States are now (as of today) or will imminently be (by early June) without 24/7 local National Weather Service coverage (per Washington Post reporting). #CAwx #CAfire #CAwater #ORwx #AKwx #WYwx #KSwx

NASA engineers are troubleshooting an issue with the solar electric Hall-effect thrusters on the Psyche spacecraft, which have shut down due to a drop in pressure in the line that feeds xenon gas to the thrusters. A backup fuel line is avail if needed.

When Kittens Came to My Prison, I Had Not Petted One in 15 Years
I had not touched a cat in 15 years when an orange kitten wandered over to sit with me in the grass.

Perhaps. But then there were kittens."

A graphic explaining that telescopes such as the James Webb Space Telescope use starlight to measure molecular signatures. The graphic includes an example of how traces of starlight can provide information about atmospheric signatures in exoplanets.
Light signatures can help astronomers deduce the atmospheric gases of planets circling stars many light years away. Determining the nature of these alien skies is one of the goals of the James Webb Space Telescope. 🧵1/5
