04.08.2025 22:35 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hulhumalรฉ, Maldives. Sunrise at the beach. The lagoon is simmering in tangerine in the foreground with a vertical line of gold running through the middle of the frame. Mid frame dark waves crash on the reef with corals out of the water due to low tide. The sea beyond it is also in a dark shade of blue with the line of gold extending till the horizon. Above it is scattered light clouds with the golden rays of the golden sun breaking through them. Above the sun are some darker clouds. The color of the sky is gold around the sun and then darkens to tangerine further it is from the sun.

The inside of a pink hibiscus looks like something out of Dr Seuss. The petals are a lighter pink and the inside is red with the green bottom showing through looking like eyes. The pollen that has fallen onto the eyes make it seem as though it is staring into your soul with a very kind and caring gaze. The stamen makes it look a bit like an elephant ๐ค
Is it just me, or does this hibiscus have soulful eyes? Happy Monday!

Image of the sun, low in a blue sky with scattered wispy clouds. The sun is shining on Dow's Lake, in Ottawa. A few buildings and an ascending line of trees are along the horizon.
White dappled clouds in a blue sky, over a Gothic style stone building.
The glass dome of the National Art Gallery, and a lamppost, is silhouetted against a white cloud dappled blue sky at sunset. The image is taken from a bi-directional bike lane.
The sun can be seen just dipping below the horizon line over the Ottawa River. A bridge truss is at the right side of the frame. The photographer definitely should have been paying more attention to riding her bike than taking this photo, but alls well that ends well.
Just an absolute perfect night for a bike ride with friends.

A photo of a tall waterfall, it starts at the top of the frame and continues as it fans out toward boulders and a small tree at the bottom of the image. It's a sheer drop all the way down the cliff face it spills over. At the bottom it is about 4 times as wide as it was at the top. The water is white and very textured from dropping a long way (272-ft (83 m)). The cliff face behind the falls is a light buff tan at the top, to a light charcoal color from being damp near the bottom. And throughout it is heavily textured with random fractures and facets. Toward the bottom left of the cliff face, it is covered with yellow/green mosses. The same as what cover the boulders in the foreground. A tree frames the left edge of the image, it's tall brown trunk rising past the top of the image where some of it's green branches can be seen. A smaller tree with green conifer branches grows at it's base. The right side is framed by several small and medium sized green conifers. The boulders in the foreground form a jumbled slope from bottom left, up to lower right. A fallen dark red tree decays atop some of the boulders along the slope.
You know what day it is?
That's right! #WaterfallWednesday!
Today we visit Watson Falls up above the North Umpqua River. It's a tall one at 272-feet (83 m)! I caught it a spring run off flow levels, and it's tough to get close to because it spits A LOT!

Have fun and take lots of pictures!
Many back country camps in Olympic do have bear wires, but the condition of the wires can be in question. The WIC (Wilderness Information Center) in Port Angeles will have the most current info and they respond pretty quickly to email.
27.07.2025 23:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Lots of nights out in Olympic National Park and the Cascades. In ONP I primarily carry a bear canister because that's what is required in some areas (Enchanted Valley, 7 Lakes Basin etc). A bear hang is adequate in the cascades other than North Cascades NP that might require a canister or Ursack.
27.07.2025 17:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I have never had a problem using a standard stuff sack or dry bag on a bear wire. I prefer a lightweight dry bag for protection from the elements.

23.07.2025 10:54 โ ๐ 53 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Cramond is a village and suburb in the north-west of Edinburgh, Scotland. It stands at the mouth of the River Almond, where it enters the Firth of Forth. The area has a long history, with evidence of Mesolithic, Bronze Age and Roman activity. The older houses along the wharf are typical of traditional south-east Scottish vernacular architecture, constructed in stone with harling white lime render finish, facing stone windows and door surrounds. The image is an idyllic Summer scene with blue skies, opposite the wharf and shows people dining outside the village inn. The area is decorated with floral hanging baskets and planters. The houses and Inn are white washed with black painted doors and window surrounds.
