An extension: Poor health makes people more likely to vote far right or drop out of politics. Why? Because prolonged exposure to the healthcare system, social care, HR, would make almost anybody distrustful and resentful. Health-> healthcare -> distrust -> anger expressed in politics

40 years ago we’d have congressional hearings falsely accusing metal bands of putting backwards messages in their songs that told kids to kill themselves & now we have a planet-killing chatbot that’s all like β€œbet you won’t commit suicide chickenshit bitch” & the government is like here’s $5 billion

In short: Shitty parties should get to enact shitty policies. An electorate that elects a shitty party should have to suffer the shitty consequences. And a party that enacts shitty policies should have to suffer the electoral consequences.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I've built a socioeconomic system that depends on everyone to do useful work and act ethically except the people at the top, who get unimaginable rewards for being antisocial frauds and criminals. And I think it will stand the test of time

Screen cap from linked article, with heading Significance and then text:

Large Language Models (LLMs) are used in evaluative tasks across domains. Yet, what appears as alignment with human or expert judgments may conceal a deeper shift in how β€œjudgment” itself is operationalized. Using news outlets as a controlled benchmark, we compare six LLMs to expert ratings and human evaluations under an identical, structured framework. While models often match expert outputs, our results suggest that they may rely on lexical associations and statistical priors rather than contextual reasoning or normative criteria. We term this divergence epistemia: the illusion of knowledge emerging when surface plausibility replaces verification. Our findings suggest not only performance asymmetries but also a shift in the heuristics underlying evaluative processes, raising fundamental questions about delegating judgment to LLMs.

Sentence starting with "While models often" is highlighted in blue.

I'd love to see someone try to estimate just how much time and money has gone into research that is either fully undermined by reliance on LLMs or fully pointless --- because obvious if you start from an understanding of what LLMs actually are.

The Ravens might be the most infuriating team in the NFL.

At least with the bottom you can just point and chuckle. I'll be over in the corner making sad Dolfan noises. (Fire Grier)

I've realized that my username is theoretically inaccurate. The pants were supposed to be brown. But on multiple machines because of Bethesda jank the pants rendered pink.

It's the reality we live in.

I don't have X and if I didn't specifically try and see it to understand what happened I wouldn't have seen it. Fortunately all I saw was him taking, a bang and a red mist. Still disturbing but I had an idea of what I might see.

That's fair. After I turned 30 (a bit over a decade ago) video games are not as satisfying. I still enjoy them but it doesn't provide the same rush.
