For what it's worth, I have bought and pre-ordered books based on your publicity about them here. I'm sure I would have gotten them eventually, so you probably just shifted the timing. But that's something.

Well, a) I was incredibly good at math&science, but struggled a lot with writing, so I had context to learn discipline there, and b) it didn't really help and I'm disappointed with my life anyway. Fine jobs, but I didn't change the world. Unrealistic standards?

Though .... if they don't follow you folks closely, and just have somewhat overstrong opinions about the roles of "writer" and "illustrator", that might do it too.

I've been having the same thought, but I think the reality is that we're moving more into a "Might makes Right" pattern for international relations, so Libya couldn't get away with it. *China* on the other hand .....

I'm not sure if the fic I'm imagining absolutely trashes love or rehabilitates and makes comfortable the all-consuming void .....

Well, it's a deli chain rather than a supermarket, and I've neither frequented it nor heard any active circulating rumors about it. So maybe it's just a name collision? Or it may have a different niche.

If you just accepted that "consciousness" was an illusion, you wouldn't have those unsettled feelings.

It's a good book. Ends with enough of a hook that I'm sad about how long I'm likely to have to wait for the fifth one :-).

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you keep writing them. They're a nice change from other stuff I read, but have all the virtues of your other books. When I pick them up, I confidently expect an enjoyable afternoon in another world, and get that.
