I found this piece sad too, but mostly because it is part of a years-long effort by progressives to understand what "really" animates Trump voters.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Yesterday, white nationalist paramilitary forces attacked another Chicago neighborhood with chemical weapons. Families and at least one infant were gassed. This morning, they are kidnapping more immigrants both here and in other metros (D.C., L.A. still being terrorized).

Our taxes paid for these departments and agencies that have been looted and we're still forced to pay for the husked-out shells. Aside from our money, they're stealing the futures of our children and the viability of our country.
