05.08.2025 16:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0X-Ultra coffee grinder from 1Zpresso, with case.
Is this the best manual grinder in the world right now, all things considered (price, build quality, output, range, multipurpose use, features, etc?)
Find out what we think about the X-Ultra grinder from 1Zpresso, in a First Look, coming soon to CoffeeGeek.

I am, once I get the test unit. I am being sent one by Cafune, the Canadian importer and distributor.
03.08.2025 00:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I am very proud of myself for the paragraph on burr swapping, in this excerpt from my First Look draft on the MHW-3Bomber F74 Navigator grinder, that I continue to work on this evening. π

We take a close look at the 1Zpresso QβAir: compact, budget-friendly, and solid for pour-over or AeroPress. But itβs not without quirks: espresso grind is a stretch, and staticβs an issue. A smart read if you're eyeing travel grinders under $100.

The 1Zpresso QβAir: compact, sharp-burred, and built for travel brews. But how does it stack up against the Kingrinder P2? Our review dives deep. #coffeefeed #espressofeed #coffee
29.07.2025 12:11 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A collection of glass coffee rods for siphon coffee brewing, with the Silex spring loaded glass rod on the right. That innovation lead to excellent filtration, no risk of "blowouts" (ground coffee getting into the bottom chamber), and super easy siphon brewer cleanup.

What did Jim and crew miss?
- dates are a bit off on some things
- didn't cover Silex's best innovation: the spring loaded glass filter (IMO)
- Should have emphasized more that siphons were primary method for brewing in US households, 1930s-1950s
- percolators killed siphons
- no Bodum mention.
As someone who has studied, researched, & written about siphons for over 25 years, and someone who owns well over 125 siphon coffee makers (probably closer to 150), I do have to say, @jameshoffmann.bsky.social's new video on siphons is really good! Missed some stuff I would have covered, but great!

26.07.2025 21:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0All right and okay! Got the photography completed for the budget entry level 1Zpresso Q-Air grinder. Just piecing together the Snapshot Review in our website's CMS, hopefully will haveo nline this weekend!
26.07.2025 05:08 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I really prefer the X-Ultra in their lineup - has a nice tight micron range per click, feels easier to use in the hand, slightly smaller grind volume, fast, easy to clean, zero out, etc etc. I think it's the best overall option for true multipurpose.
26.07.2025 05:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm really trying to corral a lot of reviews I've worked on recently, to finish them off and get them published on CoffeeGeek; the stumbler is I don't have all the photos / vids I want to include yet.
For instance, here's the intro to my finished review for the 1ZPresso Q-Air grinder.
By the by, we did write about those Lardera filter papers for Chemex, but it was by no means a deep dive.
coffeegeek.com/blog/new-pro...
Last year, I did some of my own experimentation - as a starting point - comparing Chemex' own triple fold papers vs a new paper filter Ladera Coffee Roasters was pushing for Chemex. I didn't get deep into it, but after watching James' vid, I might dive back into that if I can find the time in Aug.
23.07.2025 21:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Buried in @jameshoffmann.bsky.social's excellent filter papers video released recently is a brief comment about Chemex papers and their thickness and such.
Because we're so focused on Hario V60, I feel the current state of Chemex and its triple fold filters (and no-bypass brewing) gets missed.

Here's that feature with Will Buxton, an F1 TV presenter, where they constantly pushed the "it's all real" stuff :) Maybe they were just doing that mainly to appease real F1 fans.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO1o...
For ref, here's where they had Pitt drive a real F1 car (2 year old Maclaren car), and I can share another feature from an F1 race where Pitt walks an F1 presenter around all the APX cars constnatly talking about how real everything was.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=phZf...
Stu, if you watch Formula 1 (the real race series), we did get 1.5 years of "we did it all for real". They ran countless features on the movie, multiple interviews with Pitt and Idris (both attended many F1 races, both as part of filming and as spectators), and Pitt even drove a F1 car in a feature.

12.06.2025 19:47 β π 2 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Also good: I had two new 220V 30A plugs installed in the testing lab, so that really opens up the devices I can plug into the test bench! This, along with TEN dedicated 120V 20A outlets (and only 2 per circuit) so I can plug in like 20 espresso machines, coffee machines, grinders etc!
12.06.2025 00:50 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0 So we had a bit of a technical issue in my CoffeeGeek Lab testing space; had to have some major electrical work done, which took a few weeks to sort out. It looks like we're going to be back "online" by this weekend, so that's good!

To add a few footnotes that didn't make this video:
a) the Website Barismo (before it became a vendor site) was the ground-zero proponent of the Hario V60. They wrote about it in USA before anyone else.
b) The Inverted Brew Method for the Aeropress was born as a way to mimic the Clover.
The Hoff @jameshoffmann.bsky.social and crew drop a pretty big video today. A look at how Starbucks accidentally helped popularize the Hario V60 and manual pourover coffee.
I knew this was coming (the Clover stuff I contributed some stuff to), and they did an excellent job.

Fakespot shutting down is a worry. There's so many fake and padded reviews on Amazon (they really don't police these things; neither does Google) that a tool like Fakespot was incredibly useful, especially when searching through weird-brand-name coffee and espresso accessories.
Boo to Mozilla.
This thing from MHW-3Bomber is a beast.
