Coming soon! The 404 Ink Bursary for small presses and accompanying crowdfunder will launch in mid-March. This will give away at least ยฃ3,000 to small presses - we hope to raise more to pay it forward to even more people.

It is extremely tiresome. Especially because if they took even 2 minutes to find out who I am they would have realised I'm really not the easy target they're looking for...

I've had precisely 1 short story out since 11th Feb and I've lost track of how many 'book club' invites I've had. Exhausting really, and I'm not clear where they got my personal email from - I've had to assume brute-forcing it.

Can we extract the Reform nonsense from Labour?
These immigration proposals are obscene, but the government can be forced to think again.
No administration with a moral core would have put these plans forward, let alone try to enact them without a vote. Once these proposals are in place, they will not be reversed. Make them think again iandunt.substack.com/p/can-we-ext...

Did you play Control? Feels like it shares some mechanics with that with the bullet/grenade catches.

These people are poison. They will unleash racist thugs on the streets of this country and call it security. They will subjugate us to the US and call it patriotism. They must be stopped. There is no more important task in politics.

Labour obvs need a different political strategy nationally because the Denton & Gorton split microcosm of failing to compete for young voters, graduates, liberals, renters + progressives while struggling to compete for dissatisfied voters as well as Lab24 swing voters to right applies across England

I doubt could ever win General Election if only a third of the population trust that you are not motivated by racism and prejudice (just 35% of white British and one in six ethnic minorities)
Might get 30-33% within that 35% pool but a majority will rally around your opponent in many places

Just destabilised the school run with TOND, a ghost story podcast from Broken Veil. Very nicely done, that, really good at ramping up the tension. Definitely recommended.

I don't know all the intricacies of it, but yes, having a low-but-achievable threshold to enter Parliament feels sensible.

(And yes, I do realise PR would mean all those Reform voters get representation in Parliament. It's not about closing out a political party I don't like (and I really don't), it's about addressing a system that distorts everything.)

Whatever the result in Gorton and Denton, everything I hear about the polling makes the case for proportional representation stronger, to me. The idea of a 60% left/progressive vote split 50/50 between two parties giving an extreme right candidate a real chance at winning is insane.

Fun fact - our designer did the interiors for the Doubleday edition. So I could verify this one! Also, if you get into this kind of stuff, you should check out BASILISK by Matt Wixey. Briefing that MS to layout was how I found out our designed did House of Leaves back in the day...!

Pages from Mark Z. Danielewski's HOUSE OF LEAVES.
It is big. Both page count and trim. Once you see inside it makes more sense as well.

Anyone who's excited by this trailer, if you haven't already I heartily recommend reading HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Z. Danielewski. Extremely similar vibes, a landmark in the weird horror landscape. I'm entirely assuming nods and easter eggs in the film, because it clearly Gets It.

1) This is a no-shame environment!
2) It's a classic, but I found one of the PoVs very annoying. Everything around the house itself is ace though.
3) Stewart is correct. To the extent that it feels like it really could have been an adaptation...

It really feels like all the wrong people are having a horrible time here. I've been near some of the 'Tourette's is a good excuse to say what you like' chat for instance. So few people taking a moment to try and put themselves in someone else's position.
