Will your actions shepherd these dozen planets to safety, or perhaps you just want to see the galaxy burn? Whatever you choose, every decision matters in Hyperdrive Odyssey.

Coming to Kickstarter on the 27th of May. May our star crossed paths meet there!

With the heavy mist of nebula dust around them, in the far reaches of barely civilised space a mechanical fault is about to spark a chain reaction of events that leave the entire sector hanging in the balance.

Bonus points if you can tell where these colourful minis come from!

Attention all space game geeks. What are your favourite ship minis?

I have plans to make my own ship design into a 3d model, so that PnPers with 3D printers can get a perfect match with the ship from the game, but I'm always on the lookout for games or minis I could point to.

The cover art for Hyperdrive Odyssey, a lone figure watching out of a spaceship cockpit. Outside a space battle rages against a nebula background, with multiple ships firing on eachother and the viewer. To one side a jump gates shows a portal to a different area of space with a blue planet.

I've been working with artists from MiTale Games, Ira Sarsila, Aissa Nylund, and Maria HΓ€nninen.

Together they have taken my previous prototypes to new heights including this amazing cover design. I love the retro futuristic vibe that matches so well with the gameplay! 😍

A single die in the box lid (on my lap) gives just enough variance to keep an exciting amount of uncertainty to both the enemy behaviour and the attack results.

With multiple upgrades paths and characters to try, this puzzly game still has a lot to explore.

.The central puzzle becomes a deck of four (!?!) cards, which at first flip over, and then get discarded when used again. Trying to complete your objectives and defeat the enemies before your deck (the character's energy) is entirely depleted.

In the latest installment of "microgames that fit on an airline tray table" we have Gloomhaven: Buttons and Bugs. This delightful adaptation condenses the rich strategic gameplay of the original, implementing them in just about the smallest package possible.

Dozens of games squeezed on a Kallax shelving cube

Dozens of games squeezed on a Kallax shelving cube

This week I put together my *ultimate* collection that fits into a Kallax cube. As a Microgame aficionado I managed to get 45 games in, including some heavier games and lots of variety.

Full post on my website:
(microdotgames.com/2025/03/03/t...).

What games would go into your one-cube collection?

It's great isn't it! You've reminded me I need to print my own rulebook for it, the German is a little beyond me.

Yeah it looks much more similar to something like the "Dice Tower Essentials" line this time around.

I tried to play Earth for the first time on BGA and had absolutely no idea what was going on, even after watching a how-to-play.

Do you have an established practice when starting a new design?

They've done a few partnerships like this before, since their Monikers expansion.

When you say it like that, it seems pretty wild that you generally don't get six months worth of driving out of a car.

I really BGA for some games, usually ones I know quite well already, and that have a relatively small footprint. Otherwise it can feel pretty obtuse.

My playtest group are doing something similar, a small deck of cards and handful of components. It's been really interesting to see how much game you can get out of it.

In Hanabi you work together to play your card in order, without ever seeing your own cards.

Walk the tightrope between giving information and running out of clues.

My favourite part is seeing a team uncover the subtlety of when, why, and why not give a clue, and what that infers.
