Anyway, when IpsosMori release survey data on public opinions on data centres and energy use in the next few weeks, the findings can be safely dismissed.

Pity the young opinion poll data gatherer who rings up a *qualitative social scientist* with a series of yes/no forced choice binary questions on complex, nuanced social issues.

Should you be so inclined, you can watch live footage of this on the Temple Bar webcam: www.earthcam.com/world/irelan...

(When I'm teaching observational methods, I get students to come up with projects based on observing behaviour on public webcams. The Temple Bar webcam is always a popular one.)

Ralph McTell and Ewan MacColl were people I had in mind. David Gray (also from an English folk tradition) is a more recent example, I guess.

Hmm - I think maybe folk music gets more of a hearing in Ireland than England? So even if you're audibly from an English folk music tradition, you might find more of an audience in Ireland.

So, "Dirty Old Town" is very specifically an English folk song, but it's found its way into the Irish canon.

I feel I should clarify here that the quote isn’t @penders.bsky.social personal view, as he’s made clear. People are quoting it as though it is, and it’s escaped containment. It’s part of a longer thread reporting an academic discussion on uses of AI in publishing which is well worth your time.

I can feel humanities scholars recoil in horror, but it's worth highlighting that this is a genuine faultline between different epistemologies of psychology, particularly since the replication crisis.

I've seen people argue that writing with style and verve is a questionable research practice.

Sometimes industry rhetoric involves dehumanizing people.

Other times it involves humanizing AI.

It’s important to recognize how both of these moves work together to serve industry goals.
