AI BOOSTER BINGO

The squares read:

I might get attacked for saying this

Imagine what it'll do in 5 years

Al critics are just afraid

Al is better than you

Everyone is doing it

"Levels the playing Field"

Your time will be spent on work that MATTERS

Your time will be spent correcting the Al's errors

MORE VOLUME!!

Shit outputs? Switch to [alternate LLM]

Yes jobs will be cut...

Humans aren't perfect either

It's FUN!!!

No practical advice

"Sorry bluesky"

Solution to chronic underfunding

What if it could cure cancer???

I made something that appears passable

No need for pesky underlings

Is it accurate? No. But...

Framing human work as "bespoke, hand-crafted"

Get with it or get left behind!!!

Al critics are luddites

Also worth noting in passing that the median British answer to the OP’s original question has been to post the Peter Griffin colour swatch meme, whereas the median Irish answer has been to say β€œthat’s because they don’t view Ireland as properly independent”.

Which is sociologically interesting, no?

Yeah, while I understand the point, I'm always a bit wary about the rhetorical equation of Irishness with whiteness that gets employed in these discussions.

There's plenty of my own friends, family members, colleagues, students etc who are Irish citizens but non-white. Some living in GB.

(Worth noting that Reform's ideological forebears have regularly over the years *not* been ok with Irish citizens voting in GB, especially during the 'suspect community' period. It was a sufficiently live issue in the 1970s that the FIS campaigned on it: collections.londonmet.ac.uk/records/AIB/...)

Irish Voting Rights Britain FIS campaigned to protect and improve the status of the Irish community in Britain. One of the main issues for the Irish community in Britain during the 1970s was the protection of the right to vote …

The rights of Irish citizens to vote was seen as a sufficiently live political issue that the Federation of Irish Societies ran a campaign on it, for instance. There’s material in the @londonmetuni.bsky.social archives: collections.londonmet.ac.uk/records/AIB/...

Don’t have the references at my fingertips but there were sporadic attempts to bar Irish citizens from voting in British elections during the 70s and 80s, yes. I think some of it may have been in response to the perception that Ken Livingstone was cultivating Irish voters during the GLC days.

Ralph McTell and Ewan MacColl were people I had in mind. David Gray (also from an English folk tradition) is a more recent example, I guess.

Hmm - I think maybe folk music gets more of a hearing in Ireland than England? So even if you're audibly from an English folk music tradition, you might find more of an audience in Ireland.

So, "Dirty Old Town" is very specifically an English folk song, but it's found its way into the Irish canon.
