Had this piece of garbage show up in my "hey remember this" feeds. It's rubbish but it combines 2 of my favourite things, skramz and horror in one shoddily assembled package.

This was one of our favourite places to play. Some absolutely bonkers lineups passed through the Southcoast Noise House while it was running shows. loads of screamo, sludge and powerviolence mostly.

As well as collecting records, I also hoard #TTRPG books. Arc is a gorgeous book for a game that focuses on the end of the world.

The ticking clock aspect really adds some urgency while the rules and guidance give room for some really beautiful moments in amongst the dice roll.

As I slowly inch towards recovery from the flu I thought it'd be nice to share one of my favourite #screamo / #skramz #vinyl records. 'Hours' by Beau Navire is a beautiful, sloppy and heartfelt record.

With a pedigree that includes members of Loma Prieta and IWHACIYYB, it's hard to expect less.

I used to think there were 2 guys, Ryan Reynolds and "the guy you hire for your bad movie when you can't afford Ryan Reynolds". It turns out they're the same guy and he just makes bad movies most of the time.

Day 3 of the flu, status report:

I suppose it's a question that is too vague in scope as well, on reflection. It depends on the intent of the system & its role reflecting/enabling a setting

I think where I struggle is drawing the line between the math & how that feels. The space between feeling mean & too generous feels too fine

How are you finding balancing a feeling with progress vs not busting open your player power scaling?

I feel like I'm often caught out at some unforeseen point of no return through countless iterations of so-called "balancing".

-Squaring off against a dragon poacher in a thieves bar
-Tracking self-amputating dwarf into a well where she made a wish
-Induction and orientation into a murder cult
-Yet another dead god.

What an evening.

1st w/cutting pink with knives, trencher and the murder of rosa luxemburg

2nd w/kylesa, KEN mode, deafheaven

3rd fluff fest w/full of hell, old soul, and tons of other amazing bands

each time was basically perfect. soz

An absolutely essential record, an under-sung cornerstone of so many scenes.

They're brilliant live, too.

Also trims planning bloat that's introduced with a new aspect of DMing/GMing. Find songs you like & reuse them.

I used a song from the Annihilation soundtrack to great effect across 3 years of sleep paralysis encounters. The dread became near enough Pavlovian with the first identifying notes.

I much prefer it, particularly for IRL games - generalised background music & preselected music for specific scenes or narrative motifs that I want to highlight

Repeating musical motifs e.g. all temples of a particular deity having the same soundtrack can be a great immersive tool & roleplay prompt

Not checked out Oriska yet, but I'll change that ASAP.

My overall favourite of the year is probably the Fashion Tips LP, outside this sphere of conversation a bit, very dancey no-wave influenced stuff a la Skin Graft records or Three1G but with a dancier twist on that kind of noise

The Respire record was a little bit of a slow burner for me, I love Black Line so, so much so it was hard to make room in my heart for the new one, but it wormed its way in and blossomed as it ought to.

A late entry, but the new @hiddenmothers.bsky.social record is a very very strong effort.

I like to have 2 creative projects going:

-The main one, that I am trying to refine and finish

-The casual one, that I can pick at & be fanciful about as I lay the meat on the bones

When the main one is finished, the hope is that the casual one graduates to 'main' status. Rarely works though

It's #horror movie time, but I have been struck by the most terrifying problem of all: option paralysis.

Anyone got a favourite hidden gem to help out someone who watches probably far too much horror already.

Flavour profile: icky-sticky/body horror preferred.

Line up is nuts. hoping to get down and have a lovely time at this if the stars align.

Both 'An Exit Exists' by Blind Girls, and 'Hiraeth' by Respire figure highly on my list for the year
