Again, no one is forcing you. But time has already done its work and for most US Jews, they are simply neither Ashkenazim or Sefardim. Why would they follow the customs from a country with which they have had zero contact and thereby minimize their actual Jewish lived experience?

I’m not in favor of forcing anyone, & keep all of your melodies, though there are good reasons to eliminate the divide once and for all. But I think at this point the majority of US Jews have had no contact with a family member who emigrated from E Europe.

Anyway, I know that when Rosh moved from Ashkenaz to Spain, he immediately started eating rice on the next Pesah. So I’ve concluded that for non recent immigrants, the Ashkenaz/Sepharad divide is irrelevant in moving to new countries that fall into neither category.
