Non-med friends often ask "Isn't ICU algorithmic? When will AI take your job?" After yet another ICU wk, our work as human MDs is indispensable. Dr@bobwachter.bsky.social post & wonderful book, A Giant Leap, answer these big questions thoroughly & eloquently - an engaging, fast, & educational read!

Happy to spend a billion dollars a day attacking Iran, but willing to deny a Veteran a disability claim on the whim of an AI bot πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¬πŸ–•πŸ»

A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor: Tom Noonan (1951-2026) A personal tribute to a great actor, a great friend, and a gentle giant of a man.

"I looked up, and up, and up, and up, until I saw Tom Noonan's face, looking down at me with a curious expression. 'What did you say your name was?' he asked." A remembrance of my friend Tom, lost too soon. www.rogerebert.com/mzs/a-beauti...

Thanks to the nearly 150 folks who came out Saturday at UNC to #standupforscience. I am especially grateful to the amazing speakers who presented a well rounded vision of the current situation & the way forward. Someday folks will ask what we did in this defining moment and you all stood up! 1/2 πŸ§ͺ

how can we amplify this - there are 1000s of lawyers in the US if they all followed Daniel's lead - could they free all those ICE imprisoned?

This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

This is to say: if you're an attorney who's hesitated to take on habeas cases because you think you lack the knowledge, or you're worried about whether you'll really help, I PROMISE you can make a difference. I'm just a dipshit with a 7-year-old laptop and a bad attitude. If I can do it, so can you.

The bottom line is Trump sacrificed 8 American lives (& counting) and more than 1,000 Iranian lives (& counting) for nothing. He hurt the US & global economies, destabilized the Middle East, & will pull out with the same Iranian regime in power. There's no silver lining.

A senseless, criminal waste

If Iran does anything that stops the flow of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have been hit thus far. Additionally, we will take out easily destroyable targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back, as a Nation, again β€” Death, Fire, and Fury will reign upon them β€” But I hope, and pray, that it does not happen! This is a gift from the United States of America to China, and all of those Nations that heavily use the Hormuz Strait. Hopefully, it is a gesture that will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Trump is completely flailing. He didn't anticipate the economic blowback and now he's trying to undo the past 10 days and contain the damage.

This is the right energy from @schiff.senate.gov - he and every member of the Democratic Caucus (except for Fetterman who is a lost cause) need to follow through it. They cannot vote for another dime to continue this unnecessary & illegal war.

That sound you are *not* hearing is Donald Trump rebuking his pal Vladimir Putin for providing Iran with specific locations of American troops to kill them.

Instead, Donald is *easing* sanctions on Russia.

He is despicable.

Trump is upbeat while the stock market is trading, but suddenly pessimistic when it closes.

This is brazen market manipulation.

I am very sorry to learn that Phil Bourne passed away yesterday March 8. He had a huge impact at NIH and in the data science community.

He was also a good mentor to many people including me.

Looking at all the horrific steps that the MAGA/MAHA Team has takenβ€”Trump, Bhattacharya, Vought, RFK Jrβ€”to denigrate & dismantle science & health research, were these steps ethical?

Is it ethical for the NIH Director to be aiding & abetting RFK Jr & Trump as they dismantle US public health?

END/

The next ethics director will be VERY busy, investigating:

Was it ethical for NIH leadership to terminate studies on health disparities, including research at Duke on the health of transgender people?

Was it ethical for Bhattacharya to ban our team from using the words β€œracial disparities”?
