As I am getting ready for bed I see: today’s the 27th. 10 months exactly since the storm. I’m so glad my town is returning, people are surviving, the animals and the trees standing. On reflection it feels like the Covid years: we survived it yet time is held in a weird vessel. It was a lifetime ago

Dead snake on the Buddha. Crushed cars on the highway. My home. My tears. I cried about it. Guilt of surviving. Images of knowing what others saw with their eyes floated like corpses across my mind. I could smell the electric air from then. I could hear the helicopters.

I wrote about Hurricane Helene in my morning pages today. I’ve been in a chronological journaling mode & today I reached Fall 2024. I looked back at photos & videos I took for the first time since it happened. The brown mud. broken trees. trash. Solar lit dinners. Piano in the holler.
