im sharing this btw bc i was thinking about it in the shower. there are some people i hear about who are determined to hate me and spread rumours against me, but i also think that maybe kindness can save someone’s life. you never know when someone just needs a friend to learn that they are wrong.

(7/7 the moral of the story here is that if you want someone to unlearn hate, feeding them a different kind of hate is not the way to do it.

it’s not easy to love your enemy, and there are some cases where it is not worth the cost. however, a war is only fought when both sides want to fight.

(6/7) i wonder how things would be if i hadn’t reached out to them. part of me worries that they would still be hateful and miserable, but now they are flourishing and have learned that they are queer themselves.

they got kicked out after coming out, but are now living their most authentic life. :)

(5/??) they fully respected and supported my pronouns, learned about how the bible was mistranslated, etc. because of my kindness, they learned that the people who hurled threats and hatred at them were NOT representative of what the LGBT community stood for. many of us were just *people*.

(4/??) and yknow what? even though they didn’t support my identity, we ended up becoming pretty good friends. i would eventually infodump to them about my queer ships, and they would enjoy it. slowly, i was helping them to unlearn the hatred they had been taught for my community.

(3/??) i really didn’t agree with what they said, because how could you so proudly stand with hate? but something in my gut told me that this wasn’t what it seemed.

so i reached out to them. just casual dms, “i like your content”, etc. then i attempted to befriend them! people thought i was crazy!!

(2/??) this included changing a few physical aspects to their cosplays and prohibiting graphic content… and this also came with them stating they did not support the LGBTQ+ community. to say they were flamed for this was an understatement.

their comments were flooded with every threat in the book.

(1/??) so a few years ago, i had a cosplayer i really liked who i followed across platforms. I thought they were really cool and super sweet, but never rly had the courage to approach them! one day, they made a post on their instagram talking about how they were trying to come closer to god.

i have a story i want to share about an experience i had with someone i knew, because this may or may not relate to something currently happening in my life.
