"Vote-shaming" is the stupidest phrase ever.

If I were writing a story and quickly wanted to establish a character was a hero, having him defend a woman from assault by a pair of masked goons with guns would do it. Everyone understands who the good guys and bad guys are, and the goons cashing a check from the government wouldn’t change that.

“Trust” isn’t even the point, you probably shouldn’t trust politicians. The issue is incentives. If you demonstrate that you will attack a politician no matter what they do, then they have no incentive to consider your concerns.
