For those of you who've ever done an April Fool's style event - whether for a company or even for your communities - what sorts of fun shenanigans had you gotten up to? What would you do again? Or if you did an event that missed the mark, what would you have done differently?💡

Whether that's an exclusive unlock, a collectible, something memey or a reference someone might need to dig for to get, there's ways to keep things lighthearted and fun during what is usually a holiday that makes people have trust issues for 24 hours 💀

Things that don't make people feel "made fun off" in the year 2025 would be things like the "Twerking Venom" emote or the Palworld VN. But it definitely relies on knowing your audience and giving players a piece of content that doesn't give them a "bad feeling" to engage with.

I had a lot of fun doing these silly joke posts and running events, even it it was the one specifically designed to troll, but I always tried to give players some level of value, or put teasers into things so that it didn't feel like it was just a jab at their expense.

The items revealed to allegedly be in the Star Shop (VIP spending system) were real items, but were renamed GM items with joke effects never to be released properly with joke names. "Powerdrink" was a reference to the Powerthirst video - the items real name is Tideborn Heart...

For the 2017 event, I centered the announcement blog around "Duke Blacke" who already had a bit of a reputation in-game as being "annoying" based on the fact he was used for system message shouts and part of his role within the game's story. Enter - Duke Blacke Shouts 2017

THE GOAL : I wanted to make April Fool's engaging and fun without being harmful while also showing off potentially new content or unreleased events - sprinkling in just enough truth in the fantastical for people to not quite believe it entirely.

(Yes, there is bad binder behavior here - slots have multiple copies of cards, some not sleeved etc. I am quickly changing that 🤣)

It's been a very busy but fufilling January with packing orders nearly every day. Breaking alot of PBs on it - the Pokemon TCG boom is no joke.

All I know is that it's a new year, which means a new page to turn.

Whatever form that takes, I will make sure that I will land at a higher point this time next year 💪

Most people start planning goals or focuses for the new year around this time.

I'm not sure what types of goals I'd even begin to set.

I can easily draft ones for the new business, but when it comes to my own stuff, I'm just stuck on a blank page wondering what's feasible.

I'm very grateful to all the managers and industry professionals I've talked to over the past few months that have made me feel a little more sane and less alone.

I'm also grateful to everyone who I've talked to in various capacities over the past few months as well.

I've spent alot of my time with my head down, working heavily behind the scenes on my silly little cardshop buisness and reaching out to people where I can in between packing orders.

There's a sort of therapy in it, moving items to new homes and folding invoices into envelopes.

This year has been very hectic and had alot more lowlights than highlights.

But I'm still somehow here.

Somehow still standing.
