(Also no one in Scotland or England in Macbeth’s or Shakespeare’s time sounded like people there sound today, so it’s no more inaccurate than everyone having a Scottish or English accent).

Macduff is a Macbeth’s mirror image so it makes sense that he’s also American.

I mean it also works if you think of the Macbeths as these sort of upstarts, almost new money. Duncan’s Irish, which actually fits an image of him as an old Gaelic/Dal Riada holdover. Malcolm being English makes him more cultured and modern.

I also like that nobody puts on an accent. The Macbeths and Macduff are American. Duncan’s Irish. Malcolm’s English. Everyone else is a mix.

Now your Macbeths don’t need to feel like a real married coupleβ€”they’re in a feudal Dark Ages marriage, after allβ€”but it definitely makes the tragedy more visceral.

The Denzel Washington MACBETH is the superior film adaptation. Washington and Frances McDormand are so good as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Their relationship feels so real and β€œlived in,” which makes the inevitable bloody spiral all the more tragic.

The purpose of this website is to help unburden your brain by releasing horrible sentences that live in there like demons

Yeah I think beer is much easier than wine. It’s cold, less dehydrating, and goes through the system quicker

One beer and one taco per hour is easy peasy. The running would suck but even I could do 10 miles in 24 hrs

In the hot parlor, beside the specter of the pianola shrouded in a white sheet, Colonel Aureliano Buendia did not sit down that time inside the chalk circle that his aides had drawn. He sat in a chair between his political advisers and, wrapped in his woolen blanket, he listened in silence to the brief proposals of the emissaries. They asked first that he renounce the revision of property titles in order to get back the support of the Liberal landowners. They asked, secondly, that he renounce the fight against clerical influence in order to obtain the support of the Catholic masses. They asked, finally, that he renounce the aim of equal rights for natural and illegitimate children in order to preserve the integrity of the home.

"That means," Colonel Aureliano BuendΓa said, smiling when the reading was over, "that all we're fighting for is power."

"They're tactical changes," one of the delegates replied.

"Right now the main thing is to broaden the popular base of the war. Then we'll have another look."

One of Colonel. Aureliano BuendΓa's political advisers hastened to intervene.

"It's a contradiction," he said. "If these changes are good, it means that the Conservative regime is good. If we succeed in broadening the popular base of the war with them, as you people say, it means that the regime has a broad popular base. It means, in short, that for almost twenty years we've been fighting against the sentiments of the nation.”

Thinking once again about this excerpt from One Hundred Years Of Solitude, wherein someone points out that by conceding all points to the enemy, β€œall we’re fighting for is power.”

I understand *why* nobody ever makes a WUTHERING HEIGHTS adaptation including the second half of the novel, but also that is by far the best half.

My favorite fun fact remains that FIREFLIES was initially released as a double feature with TOTORO. Literally cannot imagine the psychic damage that viewing experience must have caused.

They beat a blind refugee who speaks no English for failing to obey police commands he could not understand. Then instead of apologizing, they charged him with possession of a β€œweapon”—HIS WALKING STICK. Then they dumped him miles from home without notifying anyone, after which he was found dead.
