Did you know that SNAP supports roughly 388,000 jobs across the food industry? Cuts to SNAP will impact grocers across the country, particularly in rural areas.

The Scott Administration just gave away private data of SNAP participants from the last 5 years - including mine! This includes name, date of birth, address, and social security number.
Disgusted doesn't even begin to cover it.
Rural grocery stores may be forced to close if the #SNAP cuts in the 'Big Beautiful Bill' are passed. This would be devastating for rural communities across the country, who already face higher rates of hunger.
10.06.2025 15:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What would you do if you lost healthcare coverage? What if your money for groceries was slashed? Thatβs the reality hundreds of thousands of Vermonters could face if the #Senate does not protect #Medicaid & #SNAP in their budget. This isnβt just a program. Itβs peopleβs lives.
10.06.2025 15:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0#SNAP feeds kids, but the "Big Beautiful Bill" abandons a 50-year promise that children in rural towns or urban centers wonβt go hungry. And for the first time, it rips assistance from working parents just trying to put food on the table. Vermont kids will pay the price.
05.06.2025 19:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you Congresswoman Balint (@balint.house.gov) for voting NO on billion $ budget cuts that take away the food assistance & healthcare that millions of Vermonters count on- all to pay for tax breaks for the ultra wealthy. We are grateful for leaders like you who put our health & wellbeing first.
04.06.2025 18:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0π¨ This bill gets more egregious by the minute. Rules just dropped an amended βBig Beautiful Billβ that includes a provision to pressure health exchange plans to drop abortion services except in the case of rape or the life of the mother, even if federal funds are not used to cover the services.

I wake up every morning and check Spotify, expecting to finally see an in-depth look at the completely immoral activities happening in Congress right now and .... nothing.
@nytimes.com?? @vox.com?? @wsj.com?? hello??
So tens of millions of people are going to lose Medicaid and SNAP as part of this shady budget reconciliation process that continues to happen in the middle of the night when no one is awake to watch, and NO major news podcast had bothered to cover it?!

Alert π¨
Have you seen my colleagues??
Republicans want to lower the age of a minor from 18 to 7, meaning once a child turns 7 their parents will be kicked off of SNAP if they donβt meet the work requirements.
Rs have left the room & refuse to defend this policy.
ALL THEIR SEATS ARE EMPTY!
The Republican-proposed SNAP cut would be the largest rollback of an anti-hunger program in our nationβs history. It will take food off the table for families and single moms, force rural grocery stores to close and make our farmers poorer.
Itβs a hard no from me.
such a joke!!

As Rep. Sorensen (IL-17) said in his opening remarks - "You want to increase work requirements [for SNAP recipients] but you can't even show up for work!"
Shameful to not even be present and accountable for the cruelty they are unleashing on people in their own districts, and all over the country.
Farmers deserve a bipartisan Farm Bill that boosts food security and prioritizes family farms that grow food for humans to eat over corporate commodity farms that grow corn for livestock feed or ethanol. Yet another example of Republicans favoring the 1% over the rest of us.
14.05.2025 14:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is an attempt to jam Farm Bill type legislation through in budget reconciliation - shameful policy that Rep. Randy Feenstra (IA-04) laid out for us all in his opening remarks last night when he mistakenly called this legislation a Farm Bill!
14.05.2025 14:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Reminder that the House Ag Committee is meeting today to finalize their plan to cut SNAP by $290M (yes, they have increased the proposed cuts!) while increasing aid to commodity farmers who, by the way, don't grow crops that feed people!!
14.05.2025 14:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Tonight, the House Agriculture Committee will begin to markup the Republican reconciliation bill that proposes $313B in cuts to SNAP. We expect this to last well into the night, but I am prepared to advocate on behalf of every hungry child, family, and senior β for as long as it takes.

Bayer, which makes the pesticide glyphosate, has an interactive exhibit in Washington, DCβs Union Station advertising the chemicalβs benefits and warning that, without it, food prices will go up more.
Bayer is facing thousands of lawsuits from plaintiffs who say glyphosate caused their cancer.

Turns out that providing meals at school with no cost increases participation!! [shock!]
Free meals decrease stigma, improve kids health, foster better learning environments, and help reach families who don't otherwise qualify for free meals but are struggling to meet their basic needs.
SNAP is more at risk than ever, and a policy that shifts costs to states could cut food assistance for nearly 43 million Americans. CAP's Kyle Ross explains:
15.04.2025 15:35 β π 18 π 5 π¬ 3 π 0"We write to make our position on this legislation perfectly clear: Congress should not give tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans by taking away food assistance from millions of Americans."
21.04.2025 15:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Cuts to SNAP will force Americans into hunger while also taking a sledge hammer to small grocery stores that depend on the vast amount of federal dollars spent at their stores. This will be especially devastating for rural and low-income communities.
17.04.2025 17:48 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1Passing a budget blueprint that lays out a path to push tens of millions of Americans into poverty at a time when hunger is on the rise is evil, cruel, disgusting, and unfortunately, not surprising.

Remember, R's want to take food out of the mouths of young children to make room for tax cuts to the wealthiest people in America.
"...based on the SNAP cuts alone, proposed cuts could put hundreds of thousands of infants and young children at risk of losing their automatic eligibility for WIC."
States CANNOT afford this cost shift - especially small states like Vermont. States will end up choosing between reducing already meager benefit amounts or kicking half of SNAP recipients off of their benefits entirely.
