I grew up in Maine where both parents and my grandparents have strong regional accents, but we moved when I was 13 and I don't think I have much of an accent. I always joke that we moved before it took.

Though people say I say "orange" funny. 🤔

I've heard a lot of British actors say that an American accent is just a lack of an accent. Like it's neutral, which seems very America centric.

Maybe that's less of a truth about accents and more of a helpful trick to get actors to better sound American. Everyone DOES have an accent, like you said

I think this is one of those that is more difficult if you have an accent, like how Scottish people have difficulty saying "purple burglar alarm" and Americans typically don't 😂
