This may seem like funny accounting to you, and this is the kind of funny accounting that is completely legal and that every business owner renting, or renting out space, participates in. It nets you more money at the end of the day, no matter the personal reasons why. (6/?)

In short, Sony gets a portion of that $460K rent back on their taxes, and Kleckner gets all of that rent income on top of getting more write-offs for the expenses and anything additional depending on Iowa state law. Sometimes the county will give additional incentives, depending. (5/?)

On top of that, for the owner, they benefit from the extra income and all of the expenses they incur while still maintaining the warehouse for the renter. It's a win-win in terms of tax write-offs, which is why commercial real estate is so inflated in value today despite doing nothing for GDP. (4/?)

You can write off a portion of your rent for business as a business expense, just like every other business expense. Usually with warehouses, that is considered a large business expense that, in most states, you can write a lot off, more than what you could with property taxes. (3/?)

As we all figured out, Kleckner still owned the TRSI warehouse. It was not under TRSI as a company at all, and nor would TRSI or CR have any motivation to want to sell or buy respectively. Why? There is a reason in accounting why this is done: tax write-offs. (2/?)

Because people keep talking about this and I elaborated privately, I will elaborate publicly as to why this was happening. German dub voice actors are boycotting Netflix over AI concerns, due to a new clause in their contracts

They say it could let Netflix use their voices to train AI without compensation

We spent the last few days compiling a big list of pretty much *everything* that was delisted, & it came out to be over 100 titles… many of which were not OOP, as stated in the announcement.
Just want to give a big thanks & props to our community for helping us out with that big list. You guys rock!

All of this came out of literally nowhere, & we were just as surprised as everyone else to learn what’s going on.
Our storefront will hopefully be a new, much less unstable home for our favorite titles and yours.

• The Crunchyroll Store purged a number of Discotek titles from their back catalog which included titles that were In-stock with no reason why

- Based on the reddit thread, it doesn't appear that Crunchyroll notified Disotek ahead of time about the delistings

No surprises here. Retail is a cutthroat business but TRSI showed what can be done. CR is just business as usual which keeps fans from being loyal.

So many of us would die by how TRSI operated. No CR store stand these days.

Hey all. Ready for a small mailbag day?

Well here we have a new format added to the Museum. It's CD Video. You know, the short lived audio CD format that could play five minutes of video on your laserdisc player.

Not to be confused with Video CD. Wait. Confusing right?

It is a test of my resolve that I do not post political things on socials, mostly because I feel I have nothing to add, and that it just makes me and people who follow me feel worse.

I'll only say that I continue to regard this era as a forest fire. Be safe. The time for rebuilding will come.
