Gentle and tender folk stylings. They're joined by Saya Ueno who arranges a couple of songs and provides accompaniment on piano, melodica & harmonium. Very lush, very inviting.

It was only at the end of the first side when I realised it was all very familiar and that I owned the cassette. Whoops.

Interesting to see Mississippi Records pressing one of their old mix tapes as a record and distributing it. I don't think they have the rights to any of the songs by these country superstars but I'm not going to grass.

Blown out noisy chaos. Split between ultra-distorted noise rock with waves of feedback and propulsive drumming that verges on hardcore and the more formless sound of junk and metal being smashed up and screeching. A breezy listen.

How nostalgic. A pop-punk classic that takes me right back to those halcyon days before the towers fell, when the computer had its own special room and the irony hadn't fully taken hold...

It's a tiny bit bland and flat in retrospect.

I own the crying mask that Sayaka Tenjin made pictured in the bottom right corner of photograph on the album cover. It faces out towards my front door and greets everybody who visits. A treasured possession.

This album is six takes of Yonju's masterpiece The Star, a song he returns to frequently with all his other projects like Bunsuirei. Each take is very loose and informal, partially improvised in structure but when they get going it's entrancing in its emotional honesty. Unbearably beautiful music.

Sayozoku are duo from Osaka of Yonju Miyaoka on guitar and his partner Sayaka Tenjin on percussion playing a particularly fragile kind of psychedelic folk. On this album they are joined by Yasuo Kikuchi on Bass.

Liner notes state that the blues scene in Tennessee at the time lay fallow compared to days past. Some songs here from Hammie Nixon, Charley Sangster and half the record is barrelhouse style stuff from Memphis Piano Red. Standout is this gorgeous piece from Lattie "The Wolf" Murrell:

Compared to Beyond the Black Crack there's the same playfulness evident but the recording quality has improved, the technique refined and it draws on a wider pool of musicians (I spy Adam Bohman & Clive Graham). Though disparate each piece has a drive and purpose. Do you call that maturity? Perhaps.

The Irish Wilderness is a soundscape of natural field recordings and distant irish folk songs played on viola and bagpipes. An Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven poem backed with 'body vocalisations', gasps and groans. Live freely improvised electroacoustic pieces topped with a spirited jazz/prog workout.

Structured around a suite built on a leaden piano waltz performed by Harry S. Truman, interspersed between the other pieces. What starts as a cheeky whistled accompaniment with bassoon grows in complexity and becomes further unmoored with each iteration, eventually dispersing with Truman entirely.

Twenty-five years on from Beyond the Black Crack, this record is a similarly uncategorisable eclectic fusion of sound collage, field recording, poetry, electroacoustic pieces and jazz rock.

However, the CD reissue track "Kunstmusic" from 1973 is a big exception: Prévost's extended use of percussion - bowed cymbals and all - are present and Gare's figures are very abstract and light. Really fascinating, wading out further into the waters than anything else I've heard from them as a duo.

Despite protestations, these absolutely are in the free jazz idiom and quite distant to what is recognisable as AMMmusic. It's fabulous, sensitive stuff - just conventional improvisations and technique. There are a couple of lengthy mostly silent/soft sections that remain intriguing, mind.

it's actually quite satisfying to route - you can defang and bypass the worst traps in neat ways using the secrets. the thing that has put me off is the instant kill stuff (pistoling laser mines in the wind tunnel/tram ride) and the overtuned void fight. a lot of inconsistency for a 90-120 min map.
