Fell down a rabbit hole when researching evolutions of idioms, and what I've found has made the story richer! My horror WIP is set in the late 1500s; 'curiosity killed the cat' becomes 'care kills the cat'. The differing language is fun to use intentionally to enhance the settingποΈ

Update: finished ReAnimal and loved it! Very beautiful, gory, intriguing game that is already sticking in my thoughts and becoming part of the amalgamation of aesthetic and metaphor that inspires meπ€
I have So Many thoughts about the children of ReAnimal and what they did...
#REANIMAL #Horror
The cover of the game 'ReAnimal'; a foggy blue scene over a stormy shore, with a mutated realistic sheep/ram emerging from the cloud.
The two main characters of ReAnimal - a young boy dressed in baggy clothes with a burlap sack over his head, standing next to a girl in a rabbit mask wearing a white dress and holding a lantern. They are standing with their backs to the viewer, half-turned to look back.
Momentarily taking a break from my horror poetry novella by getting started on a new game! Little Nightmares is one of my favourite game franchises, so I've been super excited about #ReAnimal
I'm sure nothing bad will happen to the Brother and Sister! (They'll be lucky to die fast or make it out)π€
A cloudy sky with patches of blue and one short layer of dark cloud.
Take the time today to do something nice for yourself, with no caveats. None. π€
I've been rather busy, but things are calming down gradually -- I'll be a bit more present here anon! My poetry novella is very nearly done, and I can't wait to get back to my doll stories. I miss them!

Had an intriguing editorial discussion recently: how did people in the past talk about 'minutes' when they didn't have watches or standardised times? How does that affect your thinking?
Come down an Elizabethan/Jacobean rabbit hole with me.

A question for poets/authors/indie publishers: would a story-in-verse consisting of 100-115ish poems and five chapters be considered a novel or a novella? Which one? Most of the poems are mid-length, with a few long/short ones.

Set in 1926, Rosalyn (9) invents a game of royalty with her dormmates. Everyone needs to be in control, and stopping isn't an option; Rosalyn must be Queen.

In Hawthorne House, the house itself! The girls antagonise each other; in part two, Rosalyn herself could be an antagonist.
In my WIP, the witch is the main antagonising force, though in the poems from the witch's POV, the main character also counts in a way, as does the cat.

I've found that my style tends towards poetic & fairytale-esque; I write stories & settings where the atmosphere is a disturbing ambiance that steadily increases. I focus on small details/descriptions; the way leaves blow, a patina on metal, the specific creak of a boot on wood...

I think the most prominent 'reality' I utilise in my writing is the assumption/systematic perpetuation that children are not people. The children I write are just as capable of emotions and are usually the narrators; children are often treated as accessories. I do the opposite.

Hi, I'm Hadassah!
I write gothic historical horror and dark fantasy, usually involving children and/or supernatural elements. For my current WIP, a sapphic, gory, witchy story in verse set in the 1500s: Grimm's Fairy Tales, The Path (game) and The Witch's House (game)

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.
Here's how to turn it off.

After several weeks of unrelated stress, I'm finally able to work on my 1500s novel/novella in verse, and it feels good to get back into this disturbing, sapphic, witchy horror story! I finished 'Hummingbird, Buried' today and planned the trajectory of the next three poems

The novella-in-verse was started in late March!

A good star rating in search results is a huge factor in determining which books people will click through to the product page for. Take a few minutes on the bus to boost your favourite books if you can

Extremely concerning... I will never consent to have any of my words, writing, or work used in anything involving AI.
I hope for my stories to make you think, or just sit in a feeling and ruminate; the idea that people will skim-read it and get a machine to experience it for them is upsetting.
Thanks for running this, Eryn!
I have a gothic horror novella set in 1926, in which 9-yr-old Rosalyn plays a make-believe game of a Royal Court with 4 other girls. All of them want to (need to) be Queen... Things escalate. Significantly.

Things begin to happen in time with a beat or clock, or precisely slightly off-beat. No in-between.

There's plenty, but the ones to come to mind are Samara's song from The Ring, Memory from Ib, and Dollhouses from Alice: Madness Returns. I do regularly try to capture them in my writing!
#HorrorWritersChat
I match music to the story, especially since I tend to listen to music whilst editing. Stories with cyclic elements get tracks that loop easily, a sad short story gets a despondent track (eg:Jack Splatter(Alice Madness Returns)), elements may reflect things the characters hear...
#HorrorWritersChat
Nice! Which song? Quite a few of them could fit that niche if the 'incoming dread' feel were removed...

Hi, I'm Hadassah!
I write gothic historical horror, often w/ supernatural elements & child or non-human narrators. I listen to classical music, music-boxes, video game soundtracks; usually from Little Nightmares, Alice: Madness Returns, & horror pixel RPGs, depending on the mood!π€

It's dark now, so I'm stopping for today (and also getting some food). I've done one 1/2 poems in the last hour, which is pretty good, including one that has a really nice rhythm to it; its current title is 'Hummingbird, Buried'. Well into the final chapter now!

I'm writing unsettling, f*cked-up witchy 'romance' poems today! Progress on my novella-in-verse is slow, but steady... If it ends up over 100 poems, is it a novel-in-verse? The music today is 'La Fille Damnee' (Cecile Corbel): www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPCX...
I like the waltz qualityπ€
