“I shall stay here regardless,” [Monet] said, when friends told him to leave Giverny for his own safety during the war. “If those barbarians wish to kill me, I shall die among my canvases, in front of my life’s work.”

I just saw an Almond Mom/MAHA lady recommending feeding honey to infants, so we're not far from this I'm sure.

Yeah, my immediate thought was about the texture/viscosity and wanted to gag. I would bet it's a sparkling version of the stuff they give you to prep for a colonoscopy. NO THANKS

I am a big fiber fan, and I approve of making nutrition accessible...but I refuse to look up what a "fiber soda" is. I just saw "protein water" at CostCo and was completely exhausted by the experience.

...there are still Platner fans?

Assuming these are the same people who still think Newsom has to be the candidate and anyone not getting behind him isn't taking things seriously or whatever

This is the correct answer to "what is the worst DS9 episode" and possibly "what is the worst Star Trek episode."

I prefer Next Gen Worf to DS9 Worf in general, but Worf goes MAFA is just...whatever the opposite of peak is. Mariana Trench

So thrilled the @newedgeswordmag.bsky.social 2026 crowdfund is doing so well! Double art, reduced shipping, three author raises, three raises for the artists...and we're well on our way to the next author raise. Whoever pushes us over the next author raise will win a short story critique from me!

Well well well! Publishers Weekly liked And Side by Side They Wander, calling out the "poignant observations about the significance of original art and art history" and concluding: "This bite-size romp is a wild and thought-provoking ride." Yay!

Thousands of institutions abandoned programs, ended or rewrote scholarships, closed down clubs and publications, all in pre-emptive compliance.

And you know why?

Mostly because they wanted to do it if they thought they could blame someone else for it.

Oh I totally agree we should be assigning more recent works along with 19th and midcentury classics. I'd love to see more SFF, too! (Maybe not Ender's Game.)

Now I'm trying to remember what the most current book I read in HS (1996-2000) was. Beloved, possibly? It was only 10 years old then yikes

BREAKING: The Department of Education has ended its directive that attempted to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in schools nationwide.

This is a victory for academic freedom and education equity.

Re-evaluate sure, but tossing it out as she's suggesting seems extremely dangerous. I also don't think kids read every single dead British man. I went to public HS and I wasn't assigned a ton of classics. I also don't think that's true about Catcher! (Which I was never assigned, I read it on my own)

I don't think so, given her other posts.

Plus, there's lots of value in those books... should we "move on" from The Picture of Dorian Gray, pioneering queer lit? The Great Gatsby, also queer and about the feckless wealthy ruining everything? Moby-Dick? The Master and Margarita? I dunno.
