Happy #WombatDay! "This animal has not any claim to swiftness of foot". This is one of our favourite quotes from the historic literature ("An account of the English colony in New South Wales", David Collins, 1804) biodiversitylibrary.org/page/45924805 via

Sensors versus surveyors: Comparing passive acoustic monitoring, camera trapping and observer‐based monitoring for terrestrial mammals Mammals play vital roles in ecological communities, but many are in rapid decline worldwide. Comprehensive monitoring of mammal populations is crucial for effective conservation, but large-scale m...

Is passive acoustic monitoring worth it for terrestrial mammals? πŸŽ™οΈπŸ¨

We find it's not the one for all solution, but for vocal species, yes! It's highly effective & saves lots of time and money, especially in the long-term.

Happy #MarsupialMonday! Have you met our little friend, the #SandhillDunnart?

Often called a β€œmarsupial mouse” πŸ€ the nocturnal dunnart is a carnivorous critter who likes to feed on invertebrates: think ants, spiders, termites, etc. In the rare periods when food is scarce, they can enter torpor.

Feral-free zones spark small mammal boom in Australian desert A 26-year study at the Arid Recovery Reserve reveals how removing invasive predators like cats and foxes triggers a dramatic reshaping of desert small mammal communities.

Long-term evidence for the benefits of feral removal in our arid zone. New paper from Katherine Moseby et al. in Proc Royal Soc B - royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/... #wildoz
