From left: siloes, livestock barns, a massive tractor shed and more livestock shelters are just the β business sideβ of the beautiful property. A long white fenced drive separates the work from the gracious late 1800s Victorian style farmhouse- one of the finest Pennsylvania German examples extant. Finally on the extreme right is a charming original springhouse - summer kitchen. The farm is not open to the public.

26.03.2025 12:54 β π 1469 π 229 π¬ 60 π 19honestly a little surprised that this is getting full scandal treatment from the press and i think one reason is that it is secretive. high ranking officials were *hiding* something and the (idiotic) aphorism that the "cover-up is worse than the crime" has kicked the scandal instinct into gear.

A portion of John Quincy Adams' Amistad argument before SCOTUS: "I will not recur to the Declaration of Independence--your Honors have it implanted in your hearts--but one of the grievous charges brought against George III. was, that he had made laws for sending men beyond seas for trial. That was one of the most odious of those acts of tyranny which occasioned the American revolution. The whole of the reasoning is not applicable to this case, but I submit to your Honors that, if the President has the power to do it in the case of Africans, and send them beyond seas for trial, he could do it by the same authority in the case of American citizens. By a simple order to the marshal of the district, he could just as well seize forty citizens of the United States, on the demand of a foreign minister, and send them beyond seas for trial before a foreign court."
Was just reading John Quincy Adams' oral arguments before SCOTUS in the Amistad case and this part seems, uh, pretty relevant
26.03.2025 03:29 β π 10338 π 3491 π¬ 163 π 162One thing that is clear from these headlines is that the big news orgs don't have a vocabulary or strategy for how to report to readers when the President claims to do something he not only lacks authority to do but even the power to do. That's a very basic, foundational thing.

March 25, 2025 Updated 9:04 p.m. ET President Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday that will require proof of U.S. citizenship on election forms, in an aggressive push to catch and combat voter fraud, which is exceedingly rare but constantly cited by Mr. Trump as a reason
Read in app By Patrick Marley President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday requiring people to provide documents proving they are citizens when they register to vote, a mandate that experts said could prevent millions of Americans from voting. The order reflects Trump's long-standing fixation on election administration as well as his baseless claims following the 2016 and 2020 presidential races that both were riddled with fraud, particularly illegal voting by noncitizens. There is no evidence that widespread corruption, by noncitizens or others, tainted either contest.
Why do news organizations keep misstating the effect of this executive order? The president does not regulate elections in this country.
26.03.2025 11:14 β π 4670 π 1070 π¬ 180 π 86If Trump issued an Executive Order requiring all newspapers to send articles to the WH for review before publication, would newspapers report it is a βrequirementβ or βmandateβ? Or would the fact itβs preposterously illegal and unconstitutional make right into the lede and headline?
