21.04.2025 13:03 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I went to get a digital journal article from the library & found that it was no longer available because DOGE decided to cancel most of ERIC (the database of education journal articles that schools & researchers use to improve education practices). 16.04.2025 13:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My very favorite part of the podcast was when you mentioned wanting to see more data about what instruction is actually occurring most often in schools. There is so much unknown! I would love to see Dr. Ottenโs study with middle/high school teachers replicated with elementary schools.
13.04.2025 22:44 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Using manipulatives, visuals, and precise language to support conceptual understanding seems to be supported in both SPED and Math Ed spaces (from my limited view and experience as a PhD student).
13.04.2025 22:31 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think there is a lot more agreement about the balance of conceptual/procedural than was characterized in the podcast. I interpret that page on the SoM website as emphasizing the importance of both- not a claim that procedures will result in conceptual understanding.
