The water station in Miznaz in #Syria was damaged during 14 years of war, depriving local communities of safe water.

With funds from SOS Syria Emergency Appeal @peopleinneed.bsky.social rehabilitated the 💧water station with a 🔅solar power system.

Now, 4,000 residents have safe drinking water.

We are educating them about the principles of the circular economy and supporting their ideas on how to use the circular economy in practise.

Young people working together with the adults LEAD is a small non-governmental organisation established in 2016 and based in Skopje. With a team of seven people, LEAD has embarked on an important mission.

🗨️_"Young people can be successful only when adults allow it,"_ says Ivan Jovanov, founder of LEAD, an NGO based in North Macedonia.

We partnered with LEAD and other local organisations to support young people in North Macedonia.

✅ Catch-up classes for 164 children
✅ Psychosocial support sessions for parents

So far, we’ve supported 2,169 people from the community. “The support arrived with the first snowfall, exactly when we needed it most,” says Haji Akhtar.

With funds from @stvluchteling.bsky.social, we assisted returnee families—as well as host communities nearby—with support, including:
✅ Cash assistance to cover urgent winter needs
✅ Winterisation kits with blankets, stoves, and fuel
✅ A solar-powered water system and improved sanitation facilities

After decades of immigration, 70-year-old Haji Akhtar and his family returned to #Afghanistan with fewpossessions. They settled in a returnee camp in Maidan Shahr. Aswinter approached, families like Haji Akthar’s had no proper heating, limited safe water, and many children were out of school.

🚰Miznaz in northwest Syria was near the frontline for many years, and the city suffered extensive damage to its infrastructure, including the main water processing station and water network. As a result, residents were deprived of safe drinking water.

At 1 year old, he lost his sight. He learned to navigate life by listening. Today, he independently produces eco-briquettes at home and is building toward a future for his two daughters, brick by brick!

We discussed the situation facing young people, the environment, and brain drain with Ivan Jovanov from LEAD, a local NGO.
🗨️"Leaving the country is not always the best choice. I am always saying that young people should first try here," says Ivan.

♻️It does not have to be this way. We are partnering with local NGOs to make the changes that address these challenges. From promoting the circular economy to supporting young people’s ideas, we encourage youth to take charge of their environment and their future.

The country needs a fundamental change North Macedonia tackles various environmental issues and other problems mainly concerning young people.

We asked young people in North Macedonia about the biggest challenges they face. Their answers were honest and tough: air pollution, youth migration, and a lack of opportunities.

📢By combining local knowledge, participation, and practical exercises, people in these villages are now better prepared to respond when the next flood warning comes.

Participants also stepped into real-life flood scenarios, acting as older persons, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. This highlighted the importance of early warning, preparedness, and community cooperation during emergencies.

🗺️Villagers shared their real flood experiences and worked together to draw flood risk maps of their own communities. This visual exercise helped everyone clearly see vulnerable households and high-risk areas—and discuss who needs support first when floods arrive.

Our team in Laos visited villages in Champhone, Songkhone, and Thapangthong to improve community understanding of the Early Warning System, alert registration, and flood preparedness actions.
