In which Granny Weatherwax is far more comfortable with Mrs Palm than Nanny... and Freyja Stokes explores the historical connections between witchcraft and sex work, as so beautifully explored by Terry Pratchett.

Hey it's sneak peak o'clock!

I am in an end-of-con fugue state but if you, unlike me, have more than one functional braincell please go give it a read?

Had an excellent time at World Fantasy Con, feeling very happy & energised to get writing - just as soon as I've had a solid week's sleep. But first, a train ride home carrying aprox fifty squillion tons of books.

A shingle beach and the sea under moonlight.

A shingle beach and the sea under moonlight.

Brighton beach under moonlight. The whole weekend would have been justified by this view alone.

It had never occurred to me that mediaeval art is not representational. It’s symbolic. Almost linguistic. So: no shadows.

Adding shadows to paintings is like drawing shadows on every letter of your handwriting. It messes up legibility. It’s a communication medium, not a slavish copy of reality…

β€˜It is the scariest of times’: Margaret Atwood on defying Trump, banned books – and her score-settling memoir At 86, she’s a literary seer and saint – and queen of the Canadian resistance. So what does the writer make of our dystopian world?

Terrific interview with Margaret Atwood.

Post image QUOTE: Helpless in the grip of my sorrow, I reached out to them. β€˜I will make a song of you. A song of Gododdin. A song of the north. And folk will sing it long after I am gone, and the stars have different names. This, I promise.’

You too have a life to live, my mother’s voice echoed as I fell to my knees. Don’t give it all to the dead.

It's World Fantasy so what better day for a title reveal?

Poetry, pining, grief and glory. A love that survives after death. Inspired by Britain's earliest literature, history & myth, THE LAST VERSE OF THE HARP LORD is the story of legendary bard, Aneirin.

Look out for more news next year!
