Viewer Azumarill asks: "Grant can you elaborate as specifically as possible on what you mean by "isn't real"/kingdom hearts is "just" light" I respond: "The question of what a "Heart" is, in the lore sense, and the related questions of if, when, and how Replica Riku either develops or acquires one; is something you could spend a lot of time building an argument around out of quotes and actions in the games. The same for all the stuff we've seen so far about Heartless and the several varieties, and this game's first facts and hints about whatever Nobodies turn out to be in KH2. This is all fake. It's delving into synthetic 'facts' in order to solve a puzzle or support an argument that doesn't have any meaning outside itself. What matters is the message that the source of power, the key to achieving your dreams and shaping the world around you, is to be kind. It's to support your friends, and see everyone around you as a new friend you can help and rely on. People will say otherwise. Loud and powerful voices believe that it's selfishness and cruelty that form the world's foundations, but when you open the door they're wrong. Kingdom Hearts is light. I'm not interested in any reading that looks like the former but I'm very invested, and find very obvious and legible, ones that look like the latter. Now the clear objection is if all that stuff is fake and doesn't matter, why are the games so much about it? Chain of Memories begins and ends with lore reasons why characters change their clothes, for crying out loud. It has to be doing something or it wouldn't be so much of the experience. If and when we come back to KH2, I challenge myself to keep that in mind and try to engage rather than dismiss. We'll see how I do."
