it's kinda hard to articulate but i wish people would stop saying east asian media is uniquely regressive and misogynistic/homophobic/transphobic/fatphobic etc.... it's a sentiment that's been showing up more and more in fan spaces and it's really unsettling.

Vincent is too used to Hojo's demeanor by now to take any offense. "The target… did not appreciate the offer. Additional surveillance is needed." This time, Hojo looks up, dark eyes calculating over the rim of his glasses. "Additional surveillance, hm?"

Any excuses Vincent might have prepared die on his tongue. Right from the start, Hojo, too, had been one of the few able to pick out Vincent's softness with a single glance, like a shark smelling blood in the water, but the scientist has never bothered beating around the bush trying to reassure him over it. In fact, they've never spoken about it once. Hojo is the only one who has ever made Vincent feel as small and insecure as Grimoire did, with nothing more than a look. "Well, no matter." Hojo returns to his papers. "Far be it from me to micromanage a Turk. Just don't come crying to me when you increased your workload of your own will." Vincent dips his chin in a stiff nod. "Yes." "Or Lucrecia, for that matter." The other man's tone is just a bit too pointed to pass as casual. "She's far too busy for unnecessary distractions." A hard, ugly emotion rises to sit like a rock in the back of Vincent's throat. "… Yes."
