How Do Italians Stay Thin Eating Pizza & Pasta All the Time? I lived in Italy for three years. How to enjoy food without gaining a pound a week is probably the most useful thing I learned. -- Here are 13 differences between the way Italians and Americans eat – ...

I’m guilty of that protein/carbs mindset

Near perfect cubes of Pyrite from a mine in Spain. These natural crystals have not been carved, cut, or polished and are shown just as they came from the earth.

This 1.8kilo specimen has 3 amazing cubes that sit attached to their original limestone matrix.

Associated with the Symbolist movement, Odilon Redon's art demonstrates a superb mastery of the pastel technique, drawing its inspiration from 18th-century French art. The revival of this medium began with the Impressionists, Manet, and Degas, but Redon subsequently developed a distinctive style that evokes a world imbued with spirituality. He established himself as the painter of inner life. As early as 1891, in his "Manifesto on Symbolism" published in the Mercure de France, art critic Albert Aurier hailed him as the "Sublime Voyeur."

The theme of the face with closed eyes, as if contemplating its inner landscape, is typical of the artist and directly references the famous Closed Eyes in the MusΓ©e d'Orsay collection, or the masterful pastel of Ophelia held at the Royal Academy of Art in London. The use of an ogival frame emphasizes this transitional space between the physical and spiritual worlds. The composition is completed by a masterful profusion of evanescent flowers. Flowers, as Redon wrote in his journal, "... arriving at the confluence of two shores, that of representation, that of memory." ~ (To Oneself. Journal (1867-1915), Paris, 1922, p. 115).

All of Redon's artistry is reflected in this magnificent pastel. In his pursuit of an extreme sensuality of color and texture, he dissociates the use of form and line, evaporating and pulverizing the depicted motif, thus paving the way for 20th-century abstract painting.

The famous pure, undiluted, unmixed blue, here magnified by an explosion of coral, vermilion, white, gold, emerald, and pink, becomes, in reality, the main subject of this work. This quest for sensation through color, for color-matter as an epiphany of reality, would continue and then become more radical in the work of post-war artists such as Mark Rothko and Yves Klein.

It is interesting to note that Dexys Midnight Runners only had 2 songs chart in America. Obviously, β€œCome On Eileen” climbed all the way to #1… Their only other single to chart was the 1983 reissue of β€œThe Celtic Soul Brothers,” which stalled out at #86 on the US #Billboard #Hot100. #OneHitWondered
