The black and white image was taken from inside a Clematis vitalba. It shows the dried fruits and feathery seeds of this climbing plant, through which light filters. It is widespread in Europe and the Middle East. It is a perennial plant, also known as "old man's beard."

Perched delicately on a narrow ledge of mineral-rich travertine, this bird is a radiant burst of color against the pale, earthen tones of Mammoth Hot Springs. Its plumage gleams an almost electric cerulean blue—brighter than the sky itself—fading softly to white along its underside. The feathers along its back and wings shimmer like polished lapis, creating a striking contrast to the honey and rust hues of the geothermal terraces around it. The bird’s slender black legs balance lightly at the edge of a shallow thermal pool, where ripples mirror its silhouette in liquid amber. Its gaze, alert and serene, suggests both curiosity and composure—perhaps surveying the strange, steaming landscape that feels at once harsh and celestial. This is the Mountain Bluebird, a vivid emblem of the high plains and alpine meadows—here appearing as if painted by the mineral springs themselves, a flash of pure mountain sky momentarily come to rest upon the earth.

I've been sidelined with back issues for a while and so this is the first piece of new art that I've made a start on in the last couple of weeks.
Still not fully fit so this is slow going but it will be a study of irises in oils on linen.
