I encourage everyone to read/reread Trimax with this lens, but also look for the subtext of Vash's yearning.

Trigun starts as its publication as a shonen, yet Vash is written maturely for the genre. When Trimax is published, this maturity is doubled down.

Vash desperately wants human connection. While cautious about it, there are little moments of desperation and greediness that we see from him. It shows up best when Wolfwood --

Let's call it his mid-point of his life, but it's here that I think he stop allowing himself committed relationships and completely switched to casual encounters only, for the above reasons mentioned.

It's the losses and buildup of guilt that we see a shift in his later years.

I think he got scared when he found out he couldn't age with his partners. I think he lost quite a few important people at this phase of his life. I think the scars were starting to accumulate and --
