New analysis indicates higher lethality of avian flu at B.C. ostrich farm: CFIA vet | CBC News An affidavit by Canada's deputy chief veterinarian says the strain of the bird flu virus found at the farm is "among the most virulent" tested at Canada's National Microbiology Laboratory.

Tests are $90US each bird & that's only 1 of the necessary tests.
The virus can survive in feathers, water, & manure for months & years.
CFIA's risk assessment is also informed by the farm owners' "inability or unwillingness" to comply with quarantine rules.
