2/12 and I got another author for #BlackHistoryMonth! @namina.bsky.social came across my TBR because The Gilded Ones showed up in an owlcrate box a few years ago. AND IT WAS SO GOOD AND THESE COVERS ARE AMAZING

Study Group literally has the best kdrama MC I’ve ever seen because all this man wants to do is learn, and he’ll destroy anyone who gets in the way of his and his classmates’ education

Not to mention adulthood. Life would have been so much easier if I knew what I was up against

Yes and when you point this out to therapists they don’t say what it is even when they know because they don’t want to β€œlabel
you”

Can we talk about late diagnosis rage? My entire life:

- my attention span for lectures is 5 mins max
- I pace to pay attention
- Coffee makes me sleepy
- I suck at instructions
- I have a short memory
- I can’t multitask
- I’m β€œmessy”

All of these were signs of inattentive ADHD.

I was failed

Agree and add if my nose doesn’t run, it’s not a respectable amount of spice

Severance is one of the most unnerving shows I’ve ever watched and I’ve only done episode 1. The cinematography, the sets, the eerie stillness of it. I just couldn’t do it

You know which book’s face card never declines?

It made me physically ill following updates from the Supreme Court today. Sending love to trans people, trans kids especially, and their families because… whew. Enduring this kind of hostility is an experience us cisgender will never fully understand.

Blue Cross Blue Shield looked and the news and was like, maybe not today. Today is not a good day

Why do I love the sound of animals smacking but want to throat punch people if they do the same thing?

One of the weirdest things I’ve noticed lately are all these articles about the changes Elon musk wants to make to America: β€œElon musk wants to abolish daylight savings time, Elon Musk wants toβ€”β€œ

Is he an elected official? No, seriously, is he?

The idea that African Americans have no culture is not just racist, it’s wrong. But it persists precisely because so many profit from this ignorance.

The reason a lot of people don’t recognize Black culture is because it’s been extracted and repurposed for the profit of others. K-pop, rock & roll, and even β€œinternet slang” come to mind.

Then came Little Richard, who just started singing faster. So fast, they literally couldn’t imitate him. Which is something a lot of Black artists have to do. Be so distinctive, so singular, you cannot be replaced. Which brings me to my point:

On the subject of African Americans having no culture, let’s talk about Little Richard. See, back in the 40s and 50s, when a Black artist had a super popular song, white radio stations would simply steal it and repackage it using white artists.

Introducing myself. Hello all, I’m Namina, the NYT bestselling author of The Gilded Ones trilogy, which follows a group of girls who are told they’re demons because they have powers the people in their extremely patriarchal world cannot comprehend. πŸ‘‹πŸΎπŸ‘‹πŸΎπŸ‘‹πŸΎ

One thing that haven’t seen in the Wicked discourse is how Elphaba goes from pet to threat. So many Black women have experienced this. When the people in your job/school appreciate you at first, but then hate you when you prove better than they anticipated
