The great thing about art is that youre never too late to do it! The con scene is very competitive but theres more and more local art markets and small events happening places bc ppl are tired of seeing fake stuff online. Once youre ready im sure you will find a place to start

Yea some artists never really go into detailed color bc they dont need to or arent interested in it. But if you really love color then continual study will pay off, it just takes a while. Good luck

Im absolutely not the one to ask for this bc I only just got into the con scene really late. I have been drawing for decades but only started applying to cons last year 😭 i recommend testing out making merch first, maybe small shop opening and see if u like it

I hope you find something that works! And if you still get stuck i will give you advice a teacher said to me: work on your drawing skill first. If your drawing is good you can choose any colors you want and you can make them look good.

Unfortunately a lot of artists push themselves through their bad health to the point of no return, with permanent consequences. Take care of yourself and listen to your body if you cant

The grissaille method is interesting and works for some ppl but not for me! I honestly think that method is harder for getting rough brushstrokes and more open form painterly stuff unless youre doing the blob method that I linked in the video

There are other ways to paint and more roughly. A great example is one of my fave illustrators huke who does what I refer to as the "blob method" where he makes blobs of the rough shapes he wants and paints into or carves out detail. Definitely try it youtu.be/SpaHcpuXPU0?...

There are lots of ways to paint so I def recommend experienting until you find the method that works for you. My way typically is doing a clean sketch with flats as a base, apply gradients as needed and then paint on top with low opacity brushes, building up roughly and then smoothing out and detail

But otherwise if its just a block in general the best way I deal with it is changing up the method of how I draw, for example if you do lots of flat coloring maybe try painting in layers of thin opacity instead. I do that until I find some way to draw that makes me think "this is fun again"

That is a good question since it sorta applies to me this year and I have to say the most important thing is taking care of your health as much as you can bc youre not gonna draw well feeling sick ever. You can try but I dont really recommend pushing through feeling unwell
