You are the third person who has mentioned the quilting subreddit to me as a great space so I’m going to check it out! Thank you for rattling my cage about it. My husband spends hours and hours on 3D printing and pastry subreddits (he’s chasing the perfect croissant!) he likes the vibes there too 🌼

I also took sewing in Jr high and was raised to be polite/keep my religion or lack thereof to myself. But respect is earned, it’s conditional upon mutuality. When people act like she did they lose that accommodation from me. She was a bully. There were 75 women in that room. I just learn online now.

I was brand new to sewing at that point and said nothing, slinked out without a word and never went back. Today, I would eat that woman’s lunch loudly. I’m out of patience for people who think they are free to denigrate people who don’t ascribe to their superstitions and prejudices.

What was weird about it was I didn’t see anyone react. Over the years I have taken three other classes, each time contending with zealots in what should be a secular subject/space. I don’t go anymore and haven’t for years. I was there to learn about sewing, not to hear about anyone’s piety.

Quiltsky is the only place I’ve ever posted my work while being my entire, authentic self. Quilting is replete with hard line conservatism& religiosity. I remember being excited to attend my first embroidery class then watching the instructor berate a woman for wearing a v-neck T for being IMMODEST.

Gorgeous!!!! I’m tied but might be tilting slightly toward wall hangings. I don’t think I’d want anyone to actually USE the pillows 😃.

I agree! I like using decorative stitches and Sashiko on my quilt bindings.

#sourdough I made twins today! Well, I started them yesterday but you know what I mean 😃. Not sure what they’ll look like on the inside but I’m happy with the outside. The ears could have been better defined but they’ll just end up in bellies!

How obtuse and, if what I’m reading is correct, hypocritical of them. The food you buy, the clothes you wear, the books you read, the media you consume, it’s all political. Existing is political. In my experience, denial carries a hefty price tag. I’m definitely out.

Someone on Substack is saying that RBD cancelled their influencer program in opposition to politically charged quilts. Can anyone confirm?

I can’t wait to see this! The concept is extraordinary.

I agree; resistance quilts are integral to quilt culture. Having not attended, I haven’t been able to find what specific statement they made but I’d love to know. Between so much private equity having invaded our spaces and designers undermining speech where I spend my money is narrowing.

Thanks Cindy. I do love my sewing spaces. I wish they were wider but acknowledge my very good fortune. The table makes more of a difference in my neck and upper back strain than I thought it would. I really deliberated about it but the sale was the push I needed. I’m grateful to have it.

Thanks Carol. The difference in my neck and upper back strain surprises me. Dave is like a pinball in a pinball machine when you work with him but he’s a person of his word and makes sure you’re happy. We had a few parts missing in our shipment and he overnighted them; had them the next morning.

#quiltsky I never remember everything I should mention to be helpful in my videos so, if you have any interest at all in a fully adjustable work station please do refer to the Martelli YouTube channel but, here is mine. I just got it last month and I really like it a lot. youtu.be/pVH6iBxYEow?...

Sorry to hear about your RA. I know that’s rough. I have mechanized as much as I can in the kitchen. My husband has been on computer keyboards all his life and I’m trying to cajole him into a sheeter for the croissants he makes. I will definitely share if I find something that works for me 😃

I have two serrated long blade knives and one bread saw. The knives I have are Wusthof. I have weakness in my right hand due to an injury 18 years ago. I’m hoping to find some automation or semi automation. I can’t cut straight or all the way through with what I have. Also, my hands are small. 🫤

It’s funny, when you mention you’re a quilter to a non quilter they often see very old women leaning over a traditional tea stained scraps of fabric. There is of course respect for traditional piecing and patterns among quilters but quilting is so diverse, and men quilt too!

#sourdough Greetings good people! I have some problems with my hands and have been looking for a bread slicer that will cut through a very crusty loaf/boule of sourdough. I’ve read a lot of reviews and my findings are clear as mud. While I’m at it, does anyone here use a dough laminator they like?

Wow!!!! First of all, welcome! I hope you’ll share your incredible work with us on Quiltsky because there are so many people who would love to see it. Second, what an introduction! That’s quite a quilt!

Thank you thank you thank you! You got me there! I swear, last night when I did my shaping prior to refrigeration I told my husband that the dough felt really right to me. I couldn’t explain it any better than that. If I had used ice cubes and gone deeper on the expansion score I’d have nailed it 💯!

#sourdough Holy open structure Batman! This is today’s loaf! It is by far the closest to textbook I have EVER come!!! Imagine me at a podium now, people applauding. “I’d like to thank @Jessup-at-large for all of the erudite advice & support that made this loaf possible.” I dedicate this loaf to you!
