Like, what if abstraction is just what happens when someone leaves the circus? They leave behind a glitchy remnant of themselves behind, (like what happened to Kaufmo and Queenie).

Maybe the circus doesn't know what to do with the empty space and has a malfunction?

It would explain why he has a key to everyone's room, and could explain why he's so secretive about his time before the circus.

I think it's possible that HE is stuck there, and knows it, but also knows that everyone else at some point can/will leave (via "abstraction").
