Multiple times this year I’ve had coffee with fellow immigrants who grew up in corrupt third world countries and the shared sentiment has been that Americans don’t understand how bad things are going to get.

this would be, frankly, one of the worst governance scandals in portland history. we simply cannot have secret rule by insane people in private clubs. anyone in PEMO or portland soutions involved in this needs to be immediately fired

My "radical" take is that this should be standard and unremarkable.

This is why it's important to make noise about things that are important to you.

It might not always work, but sometimes people listen.

I am so glad that somebody came up with the “it’s ableist to tell people not to speed” argument. It’s about time.

We need massive changes to Portland car infrastructure. This has happened uncountable times in different parts of this city, and will happen again and again and again.

There are lots of deep assumptions about the design of our city that must be challenged if we’re serious about fixing this problem.

tangential, but the labor movement has been fighting a losing battle for decades to get workers to understand the transactional nature of work, and i am always dismayed to see people with aesthetically leftist politics simply roll their eyes at the concept of “business”

Thank you Councilor Dunphy.

Councilor Loretta Smith is doing incredible work peeling off the layers of obfuscation put on this case. She is doing great work making sure folks do not blindly trust the given framing. 👏👏👏

Congrats! We will need coordination across as many offices, decision-making bodies, and communities as possible if we intend to push for the changes that our city needs.

I’m so grateful for the work being done by our council to support coordination in this way.

Thank you, Councilor Avalos!

I’ve said a few times there’s a difference between what most people think the job of a police officer is and what cops themselves think their job is. I wish more people had the strength to set aside their ideal of the noble municipal police man and accept the self-description the cops keep giving us

Remembering a recent police contract demand or survey item concerning the restoration of high-speed pursuit privileges. Like it was clearly a thing they wanted, getting the official green light to rocket down residential streets. Half the junk they actually do is like 99% about getting their jollies

We have an incredible location and such dedicated, loving people. We should have a city that reflects those things, instead of surrendering it all for the sake of screeching metal boxes and “convenience”.

Gateway TC should basically become Portlands second downtown. Just cover these lots with highrises housing. Especially since the Fred Meyer is closing.

A Message Thread Among Progressive City Councilors Reveals They’re Tightly Coordinated The messages among a bloc called “Peacock” provide an unusually clear window into the thinking of a group of councilors who are driving the agenda at City Hall.

I love getting an inside look at how hard these progressive councilors are grinding for us.

We wanted to get rid of politics as usual with charter reform and we did.

It’s awesome!

Add to this that it rules how outspoken they are in defense of the work they're doing on our behalf.

Morillo especially is just an incredibly effective communicator

The way in which this whole thing is framed feels targeted.

Our city councilors have followed the rules and been clearly very thoughtful about how they conduct themselves, but it still feels like a violation to have these texts leaked in this way.

I’d like to see the other councilors’ texts too.

If I have to explain to you why it's a bad idea to use a machine that makes shit up 15-80% of the time AND destroys the environment AND contributes to rising fascism and genocide AND puts brilliant skillful creatives out of work by stealing their work, then we're already speaking different languages
