p.s. as i understand it as time went on they kind of got folded into idea factory at large and they went from all these sick jrpg strat games to making a bunch of otome VNs and neptunia games.

these games absolutely slapped and the only way you could get a taste of any of the overarching series (spectral force/souls and generation of chaos) were through a couple of PSP ports that didn't get a ton of traction over here.

neverland studio's art absolutely influenced me a ton for years.

and a military academy student that spends the bulk of the game walking around with a sword wrapped in bandages and locks and it turns out her grandfather was the heroic hero guy that originally killed the demon king (the isekai guy was summoned at another point) and she's got his sword.

the other two mains: the deposed demon king's daughter who returns wanting reclaim her dad's throne, but there are a lot of forces moving in the background-- but she has to work with the current empress who is a way more chill and benevolent ruler of her territory

and he's just *one* of the three mains.

isekai protagonist in a game set decades after the first where the summoned hero of prophecy becomes this exhausted jaded guy who has to live with the fallout of the war he was summoned into and he ultimately just wants to live in a cabin in the woods with his wife and not deal with anymore shit.

thread tl;dr/over-under: The visuals look *really* good cleaned up, the music is stellar, but it's just really not a game for me in the long term-- I just don't like PvP much at all. And that's okay! I really hope it goes well for Bungie. #Marathon

Oh and, I've seen some others note, the UI/UX situation needs some pretty desperate work. A lot of glyphs and icons that have no hover-over tooltips or explanations, and that's kind of a must-have for a game like this. Twitch drops didn't work, either, at least not for me. #Marathon

Now the real thing is: Would I *buy* #Marathon? Probably not, especially at launch. I would really rather play the game in a PvE or co-op-only mode w/friends, but the thing is, *that is not the game Bungie wanted to make*. Can't expect/demand them to serve every niche with a project like this.

Overall, game ran really well on my machine. I just upgraded, but still, like, it feels really rare that devs take the time to optimize and clean up the game's footprint while it's running, and I have to give credit where it's due for that-- even with me still on a HDD for the test. #Marathon

The lore drops and voice acting are great. The whole "liquid cheeseburger" thing had my head snapping like a rubber band. If you haven't heard it/read it it, I recommend looking it up. Lots of fun little chats from ONI about my digital brain ghost, too. #Marathon

I managed to spend a lot of time my first few sessions just looking at things, taking screenshots, and examining all the clutter scattered around the terrain. Kept trying to get some of those really nice atmospheric shots and kept having a bad habit of jumping every time lightning struck. #Marathon

#Marathon Server Slam's over. I really did enjoy what I played; the shooting was crisp, enemies were well-designed and telegraphed, things were tough, and getting the shaders plugged in and whatnot really made the game look good.
