I think we’ve conflated the secret ballot with the social part of politics. The secret ballot is an institutional mechanism focused on fairness and antimachine politics. But make no mistake, people know in their community where people lean, especially now.

Oh, yes, I was more thinking of the present day tool, but I agree.

Is it their fault? I guess not, though folks have to eventually take responsibly of their learning, and I fear we have strayed away from expecting people to know stuff.

A raw deal compared to what? This isn’t scapegoating, but if you don’t know history you are susceptible to a lot of shitty messaging and many do not, unfortunately. It’s the phones and it’s TicTok. It really is.

I think it’s because of the shitty messaging that votes are private things that should hold no meaning beyond the election. NOPE. That’s not how policy, public opinion, and politics work.

White conservatives really believe there should be no social consequences for their piss poor vote and that’s just not how the world works.

A little. They got it with a few examples, but losing those activists across major movements is hurting.

Many do and they keep me going, but it’s truly a mixed bag.

I knew we had lost the plot when college students used not being born during a certain time for not knowing things.

Devaluing history doesn’t help either. Sometimes it’s hard to get them to stop debating for the sake of debating, even when discussing instances of fact based understandings of oppression. Less debate more deep study.

It’s weird to think about how devices and technology have shrunk the world for the youngest adult generation. Part of this is a lack of reading, studying, and interacting beyond devices.

What’s lost in Trump’s lackeys being removed is that replacements aren’t really possible because he’s alienated so many people.

It’s all coming apart like a house of cards.

I think it’s hard to take far right responses seriously because they are so invested in being spiteful.

So many students think of kidding when I say my class is tough sledding, especially the writing class. We read a lot, we look at regressions, and we read theory. Race classes aren’t easy As, get to work. 😂
