What I’m really curious about is the effectiveness of a long John cargo bike as an alternative to the Toyota Hilux as a technical vehicle.

A hub motor would be acceptable if you’re in a flat area but any other scenario I would highly recommended a mid drive motor.

Agreed, every time I see one I think what is the point of making it compact just to put those big stupid tires on it?The best folding e-bike is probably finding a quality non-electric and putting a mid drive kit on it.
